I actually thought "water weight" was the body's retention of extra water from improper hydration. So, if one doesn't drink enough water, the body retains as much water as it can in reserve. And once you start drinking regularly, the body will allow itself to let go of that excess water. I might be wrong on that though. Oh, and you can't hydrate with beer! lol! Been there, done that, got the tee shirt!
When you drink water, you gain weight because matter is entering your body. When you sweat or piss, you lose weight because matter is leaving your body. Drinking water is healthy and the weight that it adds to your body is distinct from fat, which is unhealthy in excess.
If you lose weight quite quickly your body reacts with water weight also as something to do with the metabolic stress. We have a layer of water around our muscle and everywhere on the body. So it seems like you're not losing as much weight as you are.
For instance, creatine moves some of the water to your muscle tissue which buffs you up a bit.
Muscles store energy as glycogen and this contains water. So whenever you eat excessive carbs that you don't burn, they are stored as glycogen in your muscles with some water. When you start eating less, you use up all the stored glycogen, releasing the extra water at the same time.
also if u have to much salt u can hold water. i had heart failure so i know / and if u think of a steak and salt it before cooking its juicy now think of a steak not salted. it can be dry. ur body is the same way
@Synyster Thank you, this makes sense to me. It's why I always felt/looked fittest in the hour after working out, and probably why I feel/look the worst after a whole pizza and two sides 🤣 (Amongst other things... endorphins, regret lol)
I was quite lean for a while and currently I have some fat to lose but I do understand a bit better now.
These were taken a few years apart but if I understand it, my body in both is closer to each other than it first looks. As the first one is post-workout and the second is post-junk food so water retention makes it look worse.
@smileylovesgaming the key is weight though, not fat. Water can't make you fatter, but it can slightly increase weight. It's also not effect to try to lose body fat without adequate water intake.
