Maths is fun!

My teenager is very annoyed with me right now 馃ズ Despite having had the whole weekend to complete her maths assignment, she has left it until 7.00pm on Sunday evening. Of course I will help her with any questions she has. But that does not extend to doing the whole exercise myself. According to my girl this is unfair and illogical because I love maths and am good at it, therefore the sum of human happiness in our household will increase if I just get on and do it. Not falling for that one, I'm still an out of pocket creditor for similar services rendered 20 years ago at school without a proper contract 馃え

She is sitting on the floor with her back to me and my wife. Shoulders hunched, brow furrowed, muttering darkly to herself. But most importantly she is putting pen to paper. We are trying hard not to laugh 馃榿

Awwwwwww! 馃挅馃挅馃挅 [c=BF0080] Bless her heart! 馃馃馃 [/c] [c=003BB2] Tell her if she did her homework at a steady pace then she would have no rush on Sunday evenings and she would still have plenty of time for fun during the weekend! 馃槤馃槤馃槤 Please give her a hug once she has finished her homework! 馃槬馃槬馃槬 Math can be fun and I hope she has lots of fun next week in and out of school bless her heart! 馃グ馃グ馃グ In our house I make an hour on Saturday or Sunday afternoon homework hour to make sure my precious girls do their homework in time and that way we still get plenty of time for fun because having fun is important too! 馃挅馃挅馃挅 Usually 3:00-PM into 4:00-PM on Saturday or Sunday is homework hour and we usually finish within less than an hour so then we can all play with no worry! 馃槀馃槀馃槀 [/c]

@MommyLucy She is normally quite good at organising herself, but we've been a bit busier than normal this weekend. She'll get there! 馃

these two people are the same person , FYI
Convivial26-30, F
Take her calculator away and make her use her fingers and toes lol
SunshineGirl36-40, F
@Convivial No calculator required for that exercise. She actually made a really good effort (and was pleased with herself) when she put her mind to it 馃
Convivial26-30, F
@SunshineGirl that's the best reward for anyone... Being pleased with what you've achieved ... Suggestion... Hide you math abilities ;)

I loved math in school. I still do actually. At least numbers never lie to you.
Musicman61-69, M
@SunshineGirl I had to work as a kid. Come Sunday night I was ready to rest and watch TV.
SunshineGirl36-40, F
@Musicman Normally she's done and dusted by Friday evening, but we had quite a lot on this weekend.
Musicman61-69, M
@SunshineGirl Hopefully your busy weekend was filled with fun activities. 馃馃馃

A lot of people think that learning is a spectator sport; as you know, you have to do it yourself, or else you haven't learned.
SunshineGirl36-40, F
@SomeMichGuy Nice way of putting it.
SomeMichGuyM
@SunshineGirl Thanks! I figured you'd like it; it was a calculated reply...
I have always been told to do any homework before leisure time but I guess a weekend is different as you got more time to do it.
SunshineGirl36-40, F
@happygoluckygal The best method. She normally gets everything done before tea on a Friday, but last week she was apparently too busy chatting to her friend.
@SunshineGirl we do that sometimes
ineedadrink51-55, M
So, perfectly normal then. 馃槄
ineedadrink51-55, M
@SunshineGirl You're that much of a meanie most weekends? 馃槺
SunshineGirl36-40, F
@ineedadrink You have to be firm to be kind 馃え
ineedadrink51-55, M
@SunshineGirl That's my line. 馃槄
JoyfulSilence46-50, M
I watch YouTube videos on math, for fun.

Maybe she can find some useful ones.
SunshineGirl36-40, F
@JoyfulSilence So do I . . when no one's looking 馃槍
twistedrope26-30, M
She is misunderstanding a core concept in that equation. Happiness... has to be fought for.
I love math! I never did homework though
SunshineGirl36-40, F
@SooperSarah So do I! I would have loved to have got this assignment at school . . but not telling her that though!
Wizardry46-50, M
Least favourite subject for me when I was at school.
SunshineGirl36-40, F
@Wizardry It's not my daughter's favourite either. She can do it, just needs more patience.

Education is always good.
LeftWingProgressive22-25, T
i don't believe you , this simply isn't true , and you are VERY suspicious
SunshineGirl36-40, F
@LeftWingProgressive OK . . nice pig, btw.

@jshm2 She's a teenager, a work in progress.
Do not laugh, some people, like myself, hate math, the advanced disciplines should only be taught to those seeking career fields that employs it. For example, a baker or cook has no need to go past basic algebra, unlike a rocket scientist needing to learn calculus. I'll give you another example, a young woman I knew years ago was taking social work as her college major, she was required to take trig to graduate, why?
SunshineGirl36-40, F
@NativePortlander1970 I would never laugh at her if I thought she was struggling. She makes us smile because of her stubborness and strange sense of logic . . I am always there to help her when she needs me.

Trigonometry? I've no idea. Perhaps the college just wants its students to have a rounded education. It was actually the first branch of maths that interested me. My dad showed how I could calculate angles and space for my gymnastics choreography.
@SunshineGirl Yes, the way You describe her and her cousin they seem like characters :)

Exactly, it doesn't make any sense.
