That'll do it, but damn near anything has the potential to start an argument. Of course you can end it by walking away and not engaging with those who are being argumentative. I've also found that humor can sometimes defuse tensions and bring an argument to an end, but you have to know how to finesse it.

Unfortunately, the art of civil debate is not one that comes easily to some social media users (or journalists or politicians for that matter).

Fragile egos see debate or disagreement as personal attack, and of course themselves go straight into personal attacks.

I’m astonished at how fragile some people are at being politely challenged.

the trouble is nowadays, especially with social media is that an opinion is often considered fact..people can't handle others having a different opinion which also isn't fact..then they argue.

If both persons have enough intelligence to disagree and showcase their reason for disagreement then that's the very definition of public discourse.

Otherwise if one person acts classless the other can use the same method.

Problems only result from seriously wrong thinking becomes a crowd thought and the person acts like a pissedoff donkey.

You don't even have to try. Just air an opinion not accepted by the masses(massholes? lol), and you will be verbally chastised.
