Person A: *shares an opinion*
Person B: *replies with rebuttal*
Person A: *disagrees and ridicules B*
Person B: "OH IT'S ON!!!!"
Person C: *picks sides*

That'll do it, but damn near anything has the potential to start an argument. Of course you can end it by walking away and not engaging with those who are being argumentative. I've also found that humor can sometimes defuse tensions and bring an argument to an end, but you have to know how to finesse it.

@Rutterman Well said. Humor is a double-edged sword in this case. It can definitely bring an argument to an end but if used carelessly, it can add more fuel to the fire.
