Question for people that had covid. Did u feel invincible?

I mean after your illness passed and you were immune to the virus for next 6 months, did u feel any way? Like you didnt have to use a mask, etc.

Masks don't protect us. They protect other people from us.

I've had COVID multiple times. None too bad..just a week of proper down time and then low energy for a while. It's just one of those things I learned to take in my stride. Until a couple of months or so ago, it was mandatory to wear masks in public for us.

@strongbow that's a really strange reaction. If you did your research, like really dig deep into it and not just the surface, you will find that the average paper masks will only work if everyone else is also wearing it around you. Why? Their droplets get contained inside.
But if you are the one wearing a mask and others around you are not, you are not necessarily protected fully.

I have never quite understood the kind of over reaction you just had. Even if I was stupid and dumb, maybe watch your tone and do some research before coming in like this. X
Not in the least. I've never felt invincible.
I was fully vaccinated and I believe that helped to lessen the severity of my illness. I also believe it means my immune system is working reasonably well at present.
But the virus mutates at a relatively fast rate and, like the flu, some versions will always be far more deadly than others. There are no guarantees that the next version might be too much for my body to cope with. What worries me most is not so much the suffering of death by covid but the risks of long covid and permanent disability; for me that would be worse than death.
I take every precaution I can to avoid catching it - but no matter how much I reduce the risk, the chances are high that I will catch both flu and covid again at some point.
Further, the virologists predict than more and worse viruses will emerge. This too is inevitable because so many people are continually travelling around the planet.
Dan193 · 26-30, M
@hartfire yeah I feel like covid would've been a thing of the past if people were more conscious. Because a lot of people either think covid was a sham and others dont see the illness as life threatening anymore, so they dont take all the precautious. People keep getting inffected from one another, the virus keeps mutating, and we just cant move passed all of this.

This whole experience of the past 3 years, made me realize that even tho I do love the freedom of choice, the goverments need to take the authority to get as many people vaccinated, because most people either dont care about themselves, or others, or are stubbornly against anything that they didnt see with their own eyes or just plain ignorant to the basic sanitary precautions.
@Dan193 Personal freedom of choice versus our responsibility to others. Infectious diseases make this issue more real.

I think what we need are separate hospitals for infectious diseases, built with all the right equipment for quarantine and protection of staff.

I believe governments have an obligation to take over and use top-down authority during times of emergency if a widespread chain of command is the only way to deal with the problem. And then of course relinquish that authority and go back to normal when the emergency is over. An example is what happens during wars and the need to defend one's own country on home soil.

Some problems are better dealt with by local authorities and people at grassroots level, like specific local disasters, because it's the locals who know best exactly what needs doing.

The problem with fake news is that it has given the alt right a means to twist facts to their own advantage. And anyone who wants to believe them does. They deny whatever they feel might be inconvenient, unprofitable or too expensive. They are the high priests of selfishness promoted as a moral right.

I believe they will soon come to see how wrong they were.
The increasing frequency and severity of droughts, wildfires & firestorms, hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, blizzards, rising sea levels and failing crops will turn out to be far more expensive than it ever would have been to stop using fossil fuels by 2000.
It is already too late to stop the warming and the disasters. All we can do now is to try to prevent the warming going so high that we get major extinction events all over the planet. And yet, even while industries and capitalists are starting to change, many governments are still in denial.
Dan193 · 26-30, M
@hartfire they have separate hospitals for infectious diseases. Well at least all countries of the civilized world do.

Regarding the example of wars, about staying to defend on home soil, I don't really agree with that anymore. Yeah it makes sense that people should want that, but I disagree that it should be mandated by the government. Everyone should be free to pick if they want to participate in a war started or supported by mad people in power, or not. I just feel like with globalization, people arent really tied to one place no more, we dont need to fight for our corner to the death, because it's our only option.

About global warming and govs not wanting to change. I think the problem is that old people run countries, and they tend to be stuck in their old ways, and think that change is bad or unsafe. Also could be that the older u get, less proactive u become, and slower (decision taking bureaucrates).
I liked Biden tho, even though a lot of people rip on him for being super old, also maybe that's why he even went that way. Not having much time left, so the time he had, he uses it very efficiently and trying to push the change that others in the government arent rushing to do, because they think they still have time, to live and to make changes.
Yup, i pretty much ditched my mask after that and havent worn it since. I even had close contact with someone who had covid and didnt know until the morning after when he was really unwell ,3 months post my diagnosis,and I was fine haha. I mean sharing drinks so basically bodily fluids with those too. I travelled to 3 diff countries and took 8 planes past my 3 month recovery n i was fine. I basically just feel like life is back to normal and i live it like that anyway even though i ended to hospital with it. I think actually while having it i had this epiphany that i was sick of social distancing and how digitalized all the socialising had become and pretty much most aspects of life that i just said fuck it and started living like pre pandemic aahaha
Dan193 · 26-30, M
@PepsiColaP right, I think a ton more people started to suffer from anxiety since this pandemic started.
@Dan193 and depression
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
Nothing has changed. I'm not convinced that people who had covid are truly immune for 6 months.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@CrazyMusicLover Immunity is a risk reduction, not risk elimination thing I guess. Like, your chances of reinfection aren't 0%, but still much smaller than anyone who was unexposed or exposed a long ago. Also, there's also the fact that you may catch one (sub/)variant, be immune to that, and yet be reinfected by another.

I've only had it only once so far, but that could be also because my social life is rather.. yeah 🥴
Dan193 · 26-30, M
@Elessar mm makes total sense
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@Dan193 Well, if you catch another variant, you can get it again in a month, or not? Not that I would do any extra precautions, I just don't have any illusions that now I can't have any problems with covid.

@Elessar Yeah, exactly that. I honestly think I caught it because I was exhausted after stress from driving lessons and the test. Nobody else had any problems here. Also, my social life in summer was nonexistent. 😆 Okay except a wedding in June and twice occasions when I went to a restaurant.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
I got it while still under the duration of the vaccine, all it did was tell me I didn't have to go out again for the second one
Dan193 · 26-30, M
@Jackaloftheazuresand what about your vaccine passport? Some countries require 2 vaccines.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@Dan193 passport?😆I'm a shut-in
Riverman2 · 56-60, M
Well I actually had it twice do I didn't feel invincible at all. Just feel thankful that it's behind me.
Dan193 · 26-30, M
@Riverman2 thats fair
leeloh · F
No. I probably had covid last year. This year i got omicron this summer and on the contrary, I am still recovering. The virus ate my iron almost completely and I tire very easily.
I have isolated myself even more until I feel better.
Dan193 · 26-30, M
@leeloh how long did the doctors tell u it will take to replenish your iron?
leeloh · F
@Dan193 they didn't, they just told me to take supplements. The thing is, I had already lower iron than usual, but this really put it to the level of almost non existent
Dan193 · 26-30, M
@leeloh oof, wish u all the best
Boleuskas · M
I was like crap for few months
Yup, then a month later I went to my high school reunion and a few days later so many people were reporting on our Facebook page that they had covid, a few from my table too but thankfully I was ok
I would think they would feel nervous wondering if they were going to be one of the ones with any lingering issues.

@Roundandroundwego what are u talking about? I'm saying I didnt know that. It was useful to ask the question.

I never did the masks unless I was in a private place that demanded it.

I had Covid - it was like a 4 day cold

The reaction was a political stunt from the beginning. I figured that out real quick
Zaphod42 · 46-50, M
Definitely not! With how I felt I took a lot more precaution so that I wouldn’t feel that way again. That is one seriously nasty disease.
Dan193 · 26-30, M
@Zaphod42 thanks for reminding me not to underestimate it
MysterySci · 22-25, F
Lol absolutely not. I couldn’t smell anything or enjoy food for like the next two months, it was awful. & there was mask mandate so still had to wear a mask.
Iwillwait · M
Still do. I feel like if it were to come my way again, most likely it would be >than
Dan193 · 26-30, M
@Iwillwait I see

a mask is not very stylish. use a buff. it looks very good with a hoody and fingerless gloves.

it is fashionable to add soldier's boots and wide pants with a narrowed bottom. of course, all this should be black.

i forgot... also a backpack. the backpack must have a belt that fastens to the chest. it is convenient for running. it's a really cool outfit.

oh... yeah. i'm sorry, I don't know anything about covids.
deadteddy · 26-30, F
No, I felt worse
Aidan · 26-30
No I felt more paranoid and definitely started masking again. I may have felt invincible before because I had dodged Covid until this year.

Of course. Everyone is invincible, now and only snowflake libs think single payer was a good idea.
Silence is golden, ignorance is bliss, this is normal

MartinTheFirst · 22-25, M
Nah I continued doing exactly what i did before I got it. It protects me from other diseases too and 6 months immunity is not guaranteed
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
No, now I am dealing with post covid syndrome. I never want to get this again.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@Dan193 I hope so too but I had health issues before this so likely not. I tried so hard not to get this.
Dan193 · 26-30, M
@iamonfire696 I'm so glad you made it through 💗
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@Dan193 Thank you, me too.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
I had it in late June and early July, and I sure don't feel invincible. I got it from two seconds of some dipshit in a 7-Eleven with no sense of personal space.
Dan193 · 26-30, M
@LordShadowfire oh I hate people like that. Like u take every precaution possible and then some idiot like that infects you
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Dan193 I was standing in the drink cooler, and I took half a step back and bumped into him. No idea how long he had been that close to me, because I wasn't looking.
Dan193 · 26-30, M
@LordShadowfire I bet he wasnt wearing a mask either

I don't think anyone should feel invincible, even after the "vaccine" and all it's "boosters".

I didn't use masks when not forced to, but didn't feel invincible... I just know nobody is invincible and pretty much covid makes it's rounds to everyone... vaccine or not.

When told it's a six month immunity... I just figure somebody took a guess at that, just like lots of other things about covid.
candycane · 31-35, F
I never used a masked. Never got sick of covid or the flu. I eat good and stay in shape. My immune system is awesome and i dont take any over the counter pills
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@candycane Okay, virus.
