I'm almost 45, and have pretty much been single my whole life.

I always wanted a guy up till just the last few months since I started seeing a guy. I realized, I've been single so long, I could never actually live with a guy. Would cramp my style. And just stuff like me hopping in the car with someone. Nope.. I can't stand not having control of the car. When I'm not all by myself, I feel out of my element

The longer you are single the harder it is to compromise and adjust to living with somebody.

@Keepitsimple Some people get very set in their ways and end up unable to cope with living with someone.

@Keepitsimple that’s very true

Many people have the same feelings.
Being alone for so long we become uncomfortable when inviting someone else into our personal space.
I tried living with someone after being alone for 20 years and went so crazy in my head that I pulled away and went back to solo living.

I believe I was born to end up alone, but am grateful for having known companionship/marriage/love/children too.

I been single for 16 yrs without dating. I can't get involved, I'm too set in my ways. But what I would like to prefer, even tho it has never happened yet, is to hang out with a female as the best of buddies, to be there for each other, but she does what she wants, and I do what I want, without having to answer to one another.

Of course all that is just a dream, but I wouldn't mind that dream coming true. As far as driving goes? I hate driving, it's my living. I rather be in the passenger seat!

I've noticed that people who are single for a long get used to doing their own thing and living how they want to without any kind of contradiction so it must be really hard to accept someone else into your life after so long.

I've also noticed that a lot of people who are recently widowed or divorced go on a makeover spree finally changing everything to how they always wanted!

Sounds like a strong independent woman to me

At least you know yourself.
Fluffybull · F
Why do you have to "hop in a car" with someone? Have your own car.
Fluffybull · F
@swandfriends You're obviously picking the wrong guys then.
swandfriends · 41-45, F
I had a guy once I was very compatible with but he died. But even if I drive, it's still cramped considering I'm so used to being by myself. I actually don't like to get in anyone's car
Fluffybull · F
@swandfriends Well don't then! You have your car, he has his car. Works perfectly for other people. If you think that's the greatest "problem" in a relationship.....😆

I've been divorced about four years. I like having my own place. I don't mind having a girlfriend or two with a key, but, I like having my own place.

This actually makes a lot of sense
Once you have mastered true independence it’s very difficult to give it up
