Do you think it's possible to have PTSD and not realize it?

Until something reminds you of it...

I'm an EXPERT at blocking things out, so I'm leaning towards...yes.

PTSD is kinda characterized by it's symptoms, but it's certainly possible to have repressed memories, and I could imagine that giving you PTSD when activated.

Most definitely. I went through more than 35 years with it. I was out of control as a younger guy and was only diagnosed 3-4 years ago without comprehension of what I was even going through mentally. I just thought most people had issues. In fact most do. But PTSD sufferer's usually have multiple. I'm only just finding myself in life. And loving it 🙂 Even if I do still crumble at times
Absolutely. I suspect that is not uncommon.

Yes, only because sometime it takes a professional to pick up on it. For years I was being treated for anxiety and SAD until a therapist really began to probe my past and listen to my symptoms.

@perceptivei When tings were not improving the therapist decided to take a different approach. Yes, I do have SAD but instead of anxiety she discovered a lot of repressed feelings from my days in EMS and being a caretaker. There is more, but that's the basics.

@SageWanderer Ah. I see. Well, I hope things continue to work out well for you. I know it can take years to find the right help and get through things. 💓

@perceptivei We've had a good start and things continue to improve. I'm still trying to identify all the triggers and tat may take time.

Yeah... it's possible. You should check with a licensed professional just to be sure.
Though, there are some people that know themselves so well that they can accurately self-diagnose and go from there.
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
@JupiterDreams and if not, you probably will after you get the bill from that "licensed professional"... 🤔
Definitely. I think a lot of undiagnosed people are just coping & suffering & have no idea why. They may not even realised they experienced trauma.
perceptivei · 36-40, F
@DarlingSelah I agree with this 150%.

theirs also cptsd i have a friend suffers from that
perceptivei · 36-40, F
@olderuncle944 I'll have to look it up.
olderuncle944 · 70-79, M
its comes from long term abuse or neglect unlike ptsd which can happen from a short term traumatic events such as combat solders know in a certain time they will be going home they develop ptsd , think of cptsd as kids living in a war zone for many years , or a person abused by parents or husband for several years or neglected by parents no food or love or shelter
perceptivei · 36-40, F
@olderuncle944 Gotcha. Thanks. That makes sense.

Read up on it. There is a lot of information on symptoms and possible effects.
Longtokiss · 56-60, M
I think it is possible.
olderuncle944 · 70-79, M
yes very possable

Its possible!

Maybe, but I wouldn't self-diagnose IMO.
I do believe it, especially if one is in the habit compartmentalizing their reactions and pushing their feelings down when things happen.
