Do public people have a right to keep their private life unrevealed?

By public people I mean politicians, sportsmen, actors, singers, businessmen, celebrities.

Actors, singers, etc.. yes, because their private lives and the jobs they do do only impact our lives if we allow them to. Politicians... absolutely not. They represent us and we need to know who they are in order to decide whether or not they are the best person to do that.
Mona73 · 51-55, F
Most of them, yes. They decide what party to subscribe to, what policies to push for or fight against, etc, based on their own beliefs. Their behavior in their personal lives, along with their political track record, tells us everything we really need to know about who they are and what kind of job they are apt to do.

@Mona73: I cannot agree with that. The separation behind the public and private spheres is one of the pillars of a healthy society for me
Mona73 · 51-55, F
Ok. We aren't obligated to agree.
Peaceful · F
They could if they had better conduct or genuinely felt they were servants of the people
Cierzo · M
@Peaceful: We are not impeccable. We are human. Sometimes we do things we should not do.
We have laws to tell us which of those things should not be acceptable
Peaceful · F
@Cierzo: you misunderstand. Impeccable to me, isn't fear of what someone thinks of me. It's how I sleep at night. Huge difference
Cierzo · M
@Peaceful: Sorry I misunderstood you. I agree with that

In an ideal world ?
Sure.
But we don't live in an ideal world. Do we ?
Personally I think if you intend to put yourself out there. You have to expect folk to dig up all the dirt on you.
Now, if you can confront that dirt and say...."Yep, I made that mistake ! Or even, it seemed like a good idea at the time !
At least some folk might look at it and say well, at least he/she's honest enough to admit their failings !
But to act dishonestly. To try and hide the way you live your life in order to continue making money/earning a reputation, that may well be a false one. That's deceitful.
You then have to look at their motives for doing so!!

This world is very far from an ideal world, I know. Facts like this lack of separation remind me why it sucks big time

What is private life? Even in Bill's case, he spooged on someone's dress. She can talk and has physical proof. Is that to be ignored.

Or in Trump's case, he has a taped conversation or was on a playboy video.

The only true private life is between spouses. Everything else (sadly) is fair game.

Then you probably didn't like my comment about what to do with a man who rapes a 9mo old baby.

We disagree on things.

I prefer a person who talks about killing and torturing in the future, you are ok with folks who actually admit to doing ghastly things.

You pick monsters, I pick dreamers.

@Kindheartedguy: Your dreams look like nightmares to me.
About that man, I would sentence him to death. This ks not about words, it is about a behaviour, totally different

To be honest, I voted for trump in our state's primary and I was for him. He has consistently demonstrated that he does not want to be commander in chief. At this point in time, I don't believe I will be voting for a president.

It's the sacrifice they make. They can try to keep some things private, and they might succeed, but frankly there's no guarantee.

x: What about the Kardashians
Xuan12 · 36-40, M
@Cierzo: Maybe, but I didn't make the rules, or rather lack thereof.
Xuan12 · 36-40, M
@nedkelly: I'm not worried about them, it seems that they actually like it.

Ok, so after reading the most recent comments, I am lead to believe that this question has much to do with the recently released recordings of Trump being a pervy man. Well, since I am a woman, let me just weigh in on that. I don't care. I'm not offended. He said it. So what? In my opinion anyone with an ounce of common sense can clearly see that this was just two guys talking sh!t (like men do, don't deny it). I don't think that conversation reflects very much on his core character. It doesn't make him dishonest. It doesn't make him a thief. It doesn't make him a murderer. It doesn't make him untrustworthy. What does it make him? A man, just like the majority of men. Y'all are all a bit pervy and the whole world knows it. Any man who says he's never made a lewd comment about a woman is a liar and any woman who believes him is a fool.
Cierzo · M
My question was not specificslly about him, but it is the scandal about the recording that has inspired it.
I love this answer. Thank you.
Mona73 · 51-55, F
And furthermore, his response actually garnered a bit of respect from me. He didn't deny it. He didn't try to dance around it. What did he do? He owned that sh!t. He said "I said it. It was inappropriate and I apologize". No lies. No excuses. Just ownership and an apology and THAT is what garners respect, at least from this woman.

One of the better questions I have seen on SW
