This is the picture that scared the bejesus

out of my friend's five-year old who has autism.

I have an appreciation for dark art. Your average person do not.

It would scare the absolute crap out of me now, as a 33 year old. If I saw that shit out of nowhere.

💀💀
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@MistressOfEvil Yeah its a bit creepy.
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
I think I'll take it down next visit. There were Big Feelings. And tears. And lots of reassurance.
@Cavedweller that would be a really kind thing to do!
People with autism process sensory information differently than neurotypical types, and sometimes their thought patterns may even take a round about route in their mind.
This can change the way they interpret things.

So, although most of us see that as a sort of 'angry and creepy painting of a face'... They may see it as a 'creepy face painted with anger'...which although has the same elements - its perception is different.

It's wonderful that you noticed.... And actually took the time to try and find out what he was thinking.

And to care enough to think of ways to improve his experience of life, no matter how small.... Is wonderful

I especially like the fact that you went to the trouble to re-route his thinking with something positive.

You are perceptive and compassionate 🤗

@BoobooSnafu Why, thankyou. He's pretty high functioning, he uses his words and for the most part can articulate his needs and wants.
Luckily he only noticed the picture toward the end of the visit but still. He got lots of praise and positive reinforcements for basically being a good boy during the visit (which he was) so all's well that ends well.

It's not doing a lot for me either tbh...
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@Quizzical Not many folk appreciate it.
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@Cavedweller I imagine it's probably an acquired taste 😁
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@Quizzical You got it.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Well why wouldn’t it have?
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@cherokeepatti I kinda saved the day with DinoTrux on Netflix. Distractions work really well with the little guy. He ended up telling me that the monster was upset cause he'd lost his toy train.

I'm with the kid. H.R. Geiger was much better with dart art.
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@Cavedweller Damn, that's a BAD song... And yeah, she's certainly on something.

But DAMN she is still HOT!! 😁
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@Quizzical I saw Blondie live in concert and yuh huh she's hot. Can't dance to save her life but smoking hot.
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@Cavedweller I'd just hope she saved her sense of rhythm for other things 😂

As a child, I would have asked if they made the painting from photos or were they looking at a real cadaver?
At 5, I would have been frightened, too. And I don't have autism.
It scared the bejesues outa me too
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout yeah it has that effect. I love it. It appeals to my appreciation of the darker side.
SW-User
That would scare most
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@SW-User In context it actually works well as art.
Aidan · 26-30
I mean it’s a bit ugly
