I think I'll take it down next visit. There were Big Feelings. And tears. And lots of reassurance.
@Cavedweller that would be a really kind thing to do!
People with autism process sensory information differently than neurotypical types, and sometimes their thought patterns may even take a round about route in their mind.
This can change the way they interpret things.

So, although most of us see that as a sort of 'angry and creepy painting of a face'... They may see it as a 'creepy face painted with anger'...which although has the same elements - its perception is different.

It's wonderful that you noticed.... And actually took the time to try and find out what he was thinking.

And to care enough to think of ways to improve his experience of life, no matter how small.... Is wonderful

I especially like the fact that you went to the trouble to re-route his thinking with something positive.

You are perceptive and compassionate 🤗

@BoobooSnafu Why, thankyou. He's pretty high functioning, he uses his words and for the most part can articulate his needs and wants.
Luckily he only noticed the picture toward the end of the visit but still. He got lots of praise and positive reinforcements for basically being a good boy during the visit (which he was) so all's well that ends well.
