I Want To Talk About Community

The Notre Dame fire brings to light what is wrong with the world today.
So many super rich "Elite" have scrambled to donate money to rebuild "A Cultural Icon"
I am flabbergasted that these so called Philanthropists donate money to inanimate objects whilst at the same time totally ignore the 30,000 homeless Parisians.
No one speaks for the poor so they will forever remain destitute.

I agree with you but it's there choice how they want to spend their money and the church obviously means a lot to them.

@gol979 So many people defend the rich who donate to non essential causes and poo poo the suggestion that the down and outs should be helped

@Gusman we are trained to direct our anger laterally and downward when it should be directed upwards......the vulnerable are an easy target and denigrating the less fortunate makes us feel better (allegedly)

@gol979 Which is why my first sentence in this post says it all.
Priorities all wrong.
So, what I am hearing is that you dont want the church rebuilt or repaired and you want the people that are donating THEIR own money to repair it, to give it to the homeless. So the French government does not help the homeless at all - is that what I am hearing ?

@MarmeeMarch My opinion has been given

@MarmeeMarch I agree with @Gusman. The fact that you can't even consider that money given to Notre dame would be more beneficial to trying to alleviate the homeless crisis is madness. I may point out that the Vatican has its own bank, so they really don't need the money.
I'm not saying that people cannot donate money to where ever they want but don't expect people not to see the irony
@Gusman So has mine.

I saw a post saying that these wealthy people can solve the world's problems if they care enough. Theyre not wrong

@Dewms They could. They won't. Donating to Churches/Universities gives them Personal Kudos. Maybe even their names on a plaque.
Housing the homeless?

People care more about ancient structures than the living who are suffering
