What do you think of modern naming trends with nicknames?

I see it all the time on baby naming sites, where women will be like, "I'm going to name my son Finnigan Sebastian Gulliver Reed Smith and call him Finn."
I'm thinking okay...why don't you just name him Finn then? 🤔
I get giving a kid options, but not that many! 😁
I'd feel bad for the child to have to write out such a long name simply because his parents were attempting to come off as sophisticated.

While I was studying for my Criminal Justice degree, I read a study that concluded that having an unusual name is a factor in juvenile crime. My observations from working in a juvenile detention facility would back that up.
Why do you think that is ? Perhaps a bullying factor where the person grows up feeling they have something to prove ?

It's nothing new. I have several first names and two last names, from birth. It's not an unknown custom in some cultures to have multiple names, though with some it was to appease familial factions with naming conventions.

[c=#4C0073]All my kids have a first, middle, and last name. One of each. I don't get long azz ridiculously spelled names. It's hard enough just growing up these days, why scar the kid like that?[/c]

That's old school. The name on my birth certificate is lengthier than the name I use, or even what my parents call me (although no one pronounces my first name the way my parents do).
