What do you think of modern naming trends with nicknames?

I see it all the time on baby naming sites, where women will be like, "I'm going to name my son Finnigan Sebastian Gulliver Reed Smith and call him Finn."
I'm thinking okay...why don't you just name him Finn then? 馃
I get giving a kid options, but not that many! 馃榿

While I was studying for my Criminal Justice degree, I read a study that concluded that having an unusual name is a factor in juvenile crime. My observations from working in a juvenile detention facility would back that up.

Why do you think that is ? Perhaps a bullying factor where the person grows up feeling they have something to prove ?
