I've made an effort to avoid the cesspool that politics has become over the past few years. Socially, I think individuals should be free to define their own happiness and pursue it with the caveat that it doesn't interfere with anyone else's right or ability to pursue theirs. Fiscally, government (at any level) shouldn't spend more than it takes in, and it shouldn't take in more than it needs. It seems like the only party that cares about fiscal responsibility is always the one not holding the purse strings, because they both have argued fiscal responsibility when not in power and have both abandoned that argument once they get it.

At this point in my life, I have little interest in engaging in the detailed mire of political poo flinging that our political tribes have devolved into. There is way too much bloviating and posturing and virtually no listening, and therefore there is no compromise and no progress. I have no faith in this country or its people that this will ever turn around, so I don't see the point in participating in the charade any longer. I'll spend the remainder of my years focusing on my family, health, and happiness instead of inviting the misery of politics into my daily life.

I am listed as an Independent voter because I can't always support a straight ticket for either of the two main parties. I used to be a democrat, and actually voted for Obama. I was so thrilled when he won. I have election souvenirs.

However, I have become increasingly conservative in the past ten years. I am live and let live on abortion. I don't believe in dictating a womans' conscience, but I do wish all women had one. I am in favor of much smaller federal government, and in favor of allowing individual states to govern. I hate some members of Congress very passionately because they are SO slimy. I cringe when I hear them speak, and I felt that way about Hillary Clinton.

So I guess I am a liberal conservative...gee that was hard to figure out...🤣
