My phone is from the late 90's I think. Cost me £20 second hand from a cex store about ten years ago. I don't need it to be able run 4 apps sumultaneously. Nor do I want music or movie storage. I couldn't care less for social media or live event streaming. Since when was it important that your phone should be able to take HD megapixel photos ? I mean seriously ! Come on. Who's life is THAT interesting ? One day the world will come to it's tech. senses and folk will realise what they really want is a phone shop that designs apps customers want. Not endless hardware that only kids are interested in.
@SW-User What makes me laugh is how they used to think having these things palm sized was the ultimate. And twenty years on these things are now so big and delicate you daren't shove them in your pocket like you can with these old ones.
Wait a year and buy the last year's model on Glyde or Swappa. You can go back even further, just find a series that can accept updates to the latest operating systems. Apple is rolling the forthcoming iOS back to the 5S. If you want an iPhone, the smaller SE series is very inexpensive and has the same chip as the 6S in a smaller package. There are options. Android OS has even more inexpensive options. Sure, it's not a Galaxy S9 or an iPhone XS, but you can buy a perfectly good phone for a fraction of the retail on the latest models when yours breaks. For 90% of users, a two year old phone has no discernible difference when talking about a modern smartphone.
I have multiple phones, since I have dedicated work phones, etc., and I only buy my phones. I had insurance on them, and never used it, so now I don't bother, just invest in a good case.
Many carriers anticipate this so they offer you a "free upgrade" or a "device trade in" allowing you to get a newer phone at a discounted rate, oftentimes spreading out the cost to be included in your monthly bill.*
I picked up a pair of cheap throw away plastic flip phones. in the US while we were on holidays and loved mine so much I worked hard to unlock it when we got home so I could use it, as my phone. Sadly they shut the 3G band down and I had to upgrade.

Find a bf. Mine is good with buying me new phones.
Giving advice to a person to get a bf to buy it for them and then saying yours does because you are good in bed qualifies you as a whore. It doesn't mean that all men that spend money on their girlfriends are spending money on whores
