He can get clean. I've loads of friends who have. Actually coming off is easier than alcohol, heroin withdrawal never kills unlike alcohol withdrawal. However he'll change he'll have to to survive clean. At least that's my experience

It isn't a question of if he can be normal if he kicks it, of course people can go back to being healthy productive people if they get off the drugs.

The question is, will he get off the heroin? If he gets off it, will he manage to stay off it? He will always be addicted. But he can, if he chooses, stay away from it. With the right motivation and determination and moral support, he can, but he has to really want to.

Yes, although like any addiction it can be difficult for a lot of people to stay clean, especially if their friends all use it. Heroin doesn't cause any permanent damage in itself.

The most serious part of the problem is that he talks as if everything is fine. Heroin isn't really that hard to kick. And people do get free of it, usually with support from others. But he would have to be highly motivated and it seems he is not.

Don't loan him money or automatically believe everything he says. Don't nag him about it, just let him know you care and then pray he sees the light and wants a more real and productive life.

the Heroin is controlling his life. DON'T DO HARD DRUGS!! I know two people that did METH and both are good now after they quit, but they got and wanted help. Never have known any one with a heroin addiction.
Wow, thanks so much for the advice that's been shoved down every addicts throat for the past millennia. Where were you before with this incredible information.

Your welcome!
Good shit man
Many things can change a person. It's who we are, always evolving. He may one day, with help, shed this skin and be another person completely. Or it could all go down hill. There really is no way of knowing...
This ia a very difficult question. Addictions wreck the mind and body. Rehab would help and he would need a LOT of support form his family. I hope he gets the help he needs.

As one famous drummer once said, "it took me two years to realize I was addicted to heroin and twenty years to quit!
