If somebody was suddenly laid off for whatever reason but it didn't end on bad terms

And tried to apply somewhere else would an employer look at that and be more likely to hire them?

In my experience larger corporations wont disclose why you were let go.

@Starcrossed I've known a lot of employees that were given a choice to resign or be fired so basically it could be seen as a voluntary "layoff" by the employer...keeps the employee from making a lawsuit and also allows the employee to seek employment elsewhere with a clean record

They would only hire if the resume fits their position. I am not sure if any corporates are altruistic.

It's possible. If they have just been laid off and know the job? I would have no problem hiring them.

Probably would especially if there were other layoffs during the same time.

In this state they are required to do job searches. Yes I think it would be a plus.

Lay offs don't typically reflect bad. Being fired is different. Being laid off is not a positive either though. You'll be in the same group as those that haven't worked in a while which tends to be less preferable to those still holding jobs and looking to move around.
