How controlling is /were your parents?

Very controlling. It’s why I left at 18. Even after graduating from high school I couldn’t do anything without asking permission. I couldn’t take it anymore, so I left.

I was lucky I moved away young. They were extremely strict.

Super until I tried to kill myself. After that they let me do whatever I wanted.

Dad left when the going got tough and didn't reenter our lives until we were old enough to look after him. 😒

And mum never should have had kids. Or at least we should have been taken away from her.

Pretty controlling in a manipulative way which leaves me with damaged feelings. I don't think it was malicious though and I am trying to put things in perspective.

Both my father and step-mother were horrendously controlling.
Each would try to out control the other, out scream, out shout, out beat the other.
When my step si git old enough it became a 3way war of control over the household, which my sis won each time, hands down. She was like 3 or so when she began to rule the house.

Very controlling. My mom still opens my mail and goes through my purse occasionally. Can’t even drive to the store without her having an input about it.

They were pretty chilled, had some basic rules, make a mess you clear it up, put stuff away when youre done. All the 'garbage' was fuel for the fire or the veg patch!

Both of my parents lost their marbles years ago,so I ended up running away from home.

🤣 If they had given a s**t about me it would have been a start so controlling they were not.

Middling, I guess. Strict about some things but not about others. As far as I know they didn't ever feel the need to search through rubbish or anything else.

My mom was very laid back & my dad was very strict. So i didn't like him at all & loved it when he left for work for weeks.

I can’t imagine not allowing my teenager some privacy and she’s not even 18. That’s bizarre that she goes through your trash.

TOTALLY controlling. I had a shit childhood.

They would read my message history and all of that, they'd come home to my ex gf because they didn't want me there, they'd call the cops to get me to school.

Pretty controlling.

Not very in reality but they did that kind of thing once or twice when I was trying to hide something and they knew it.


Cannot make any kind if judgement call without knowing backstory. They may or may not have good reason.
