I quite like the Catholic idea of confession

Oh man the Catholic priests today for the most part make it very easy, just too nice most of them. The key to a great confession is total sincerity, it frees the soul. As Catholics we are confessing our sins to God contrary to the opinion of people who think otherwise, the priest just listens and makes it more of a human thing. Some people just go through the motions in that confessional box, others sincerely empty their souls out. Confession is a vibrant sacrament offered to Catholics, sadly most cop out and refuse to take part in this. Sadly most priests do not emphasize this beautiful sacrament or make it readily available.

You can and even better just go to a church and do it so there are no worries about it slipping out. It's really not so bad

Yes, it's one of their better ideas. So is the idea of meritorious action (earning rewards) and the idea of saints. These ideas could be incorporated into a true belief or religion.

There is a healing part to being able to tell a stranger your issues and knowing that it's a secret. Plus cheaper than therapy.

You dont need to be catholic to you to confession. You can just go to a church of you like.
