Hey! I’ve been there and it’s super tricky. I think boundaries are the most important thing - you can set clear boundaries without coming across badly.
My team know they can have a joke with me but also know there’s a line and just wouldn’t even try and cross it. It took a while for us to get here but it was mainly just having honest conversations and levelling with them when they knew they were pushing it a bit.
Also it’s really important for you to keep in mind the dynamic has changed and you can’t talk to them the same way you used to. I’ve had managers before that would switch between talking to you like a best friend (oversharing) then being a manager and I found that difficult.
Consistency, honesty & boundaries!!

It's hard.
You need to let each person know
a) you're still their friend, but
b) as far as the job goes, bus. comes first.
c) because your job is to attend to "b", you have to be a little removed at work.
d) "if you think I'm being harder on you, please speak up; I need to figure out how to be a manager to my friends"

Your friends are still your friends, but at work how you treat them is no different than anyone else. With that being said, you’re the leader of the department, not the driver!! Always remember how you liked being treated and carry that on!!

@Unlearn 🤔rather difficult but you can be a friend still but both you and them need too realise there is a line in the sand where your authority must be adhered too
a manager gets the job done thru people. Your best people are your friends.

My friends already knew I took my career seriously. I'm not afraid to change a landscape

Should be a lead in, not a big jump.
At least to assistant manager, if not a lead position before that.
The corporate world is doing it oh so wrong. Heck even putting unqualified people in as managers.
