When you think of all the whacky future possibilities for the human race what do you hope happens?

Eg, terminator/in time/various space stuff/a world where people are uploaded to AI instead of dieing.

Personally I find it all depressing other than the idea that there's life on other planets to explore and maybe time travel.

I think the invention of hover scooters are the start of spaceships that can go long distances and people need to invest and work on that - that and holiday trips to the moon. There needs to be holiday trips to the moon.

What would you like to see in the future of humans?

I hope that we're able to develop practical sources of energy that will allow us to move away from fossil fuels and work to repair the damaged environment.

I hope that we develop practical methods of travelling in space and spread out into the solar system.

It would be really cool if there were some means of getting around the speed-of-light limit and actually develop craft that can make interstellar journeys in reasonable human periods.

Mostly, I hope that all this new technology creates a prosperous future in which everyone can live meaningful lives, not just enrich a given few.

@DunningKruger you said what I feel in a much better way. Thanks for replying.

@DunningKruger We already have. We just don't do it.

I think I most look forward to transcending humanity, actually. We're so limited in our current state. I'd like to see what we become next. Can you imagine being digital? Changing bodies as easily as you change a shirt. Or maybe being in more than one body at one time?

Imagine what you could do, if you lived forever. You could do everything. Live every life. Try every job. See every place. And by the time you finish? There are new things. There will always be new things. Right up until there isn't. When the stars grow too far apart, the heat and energy are gone, and even time itself is forced to stop. Death can't be cheated... But oh the adventures you could have until then!
I hope people become more empathic and treat each other better.

@MsSwan Putting women in charge might help, ....though I'm losing faith....
@originnone That'll never happen 🙄

I've promised to upload my boyfriend to a cloud if he dies before I do. Other than that I'm open for any kind of death that's as far from heaven hell bs as possible (sorry Christians but I've heard that version of death millions of times and it's boring)
CestManan · 46-50, F
@Queendragonfly their Heaven is boring, their hell is a stale joke.

But yeah you don't want to hear yet another rambling about the salvation of Jesus christ?😄

@Queendragonfly the worst one on here about it is that lady grace, her and I have each other blocked anyway but damn she could ramble for pages about that crap.

My hopes, really don't follow the current direction that things are going.

I am fairly certain though that it won't go to either a Utopian nor a Dystopian types of societies.

Both involve extremes. And I don't believe either is in us a a people. Individually that is different.

Unfortunately I do see a type of aristocratic type of society in the future. It's already showing it's ugly face, where everything is built on wealth.

The technology of the future really doesn't matter. How society is run is what does matter.

Outer space travel I do see as a necessity. This world is already running out of resources as is. Yet it not going to be for the poor.

Elon Musk has already proved that. 😞

Only if government influence out weights the wealthy will space be even for the common person.

That just is not happening.

@DeWayfarer

you don't think in legitimate societal stereotypes. that commands respect

you have nothing but mind. all sense of mind is illusory. including sense of change

when the hand touches the face of the host, the palm feels the tactile sensations of touching the face and transmits these signals to the host's brain. at the same time, the palm does not understand what belongs to the host and does not understand the meaning of its work

i am a mechanism for collecting and transmitting signals from a limited segment of the spectrum of reality

collecting and transmitting signals to the master is the meaning of my being

my human consciousness is only for the continuation of this process

everything i know, think, feel, believe, etc. has no meaning for me as a human being
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@fakable Oh but I do. In fact I recently made a post to exactly about what you are referring!.... 😁

Fifty years from now the few remaining humans left on this pitiful broken planet will be living in caves and killing each other for a drink of water.
@hunkalove Why caves??
ravenhill · M
[c=BF6900]none of that will happen i hope, hopefully god returns and takes his people home, and those who pass on before move on to the heavenly realm anyway.[/c]

It is fun or scary to speculate the future.

Back in the 80's there was a ton of things we saw about what the world after the year 2000 would be like. Some of it did kind of happen but a lot of it was just science fiction.

The future isn't what it used to be.

The weird thing though is that even though we knew what was coming in the way of computers and cell phones, it wasn't real often discussed back then.
@CestManan we saw a ton of corporate plugs for certain things.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@Roundandroundwego what does that mean? I was a kid back in the 80's so I didn't really know what was going on aside stuff that young people understand.
@CestManan I was a kid too, but I didn't miss the heavy marketing of devices and toys and games or the corporate control of "development" of everything from video games to email until everyone had smartphones.
We knew that wasn't great for us, we knew there was no public interest involved.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
I kind of like the idea of star trek. A cashless resource based post-scarcity economy where we explore space to have something to do and it appeals to our human nature.
I hope people stop pretending we can leave the earth and let us live here in peace.
@ViciDraco tech bros want to, doesn't make it possible.
To explore space you use telescopes. You don't ride rockets
That's military might.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@Roundandroundwego I very strongly want to see humanity in space. Even terraforming another planet if we can.

Just because tech bros want to go to space doesn't make it a bad idea. We just need to make sure it is a public and ideally international endeavor.

Space needs to be a project of global unity. Not tech bro libertarian dystopias.
@ViciDraco oh I'm sure you strongly want that. Unity on such projects would have to exclude most highly educated people! It's promoted by people who think colonizing is okay, people with a dangerously cavalier attitude.
Want what you want - but stay out of the way of practicality always. The Langley Bros love space as the "final frontier". It's obscene and most people hardly notice. Star Wars was promoted for a year and children held the tiny figures in their hands before it was written because we didn't want to go to space or have wars - outside the beltway.

Common sense, logic, critical thinking and ability to seek the truth and avoid the illusion and propaganda being spoon fed to them daily.
originnone · 61-69, M
My hope is that we would all be lifted up into heaven. I'm guessing that's pretty unlikely...
The standard tech bro fantasy replaced my future. I'm having fun.
