I don't see the harm in a little self deprecating humor...

It's not malicious self criticism and I don't feel bad about myself. It's more about how I know I'm seen, how the world sees things, not my own self confidence. For me it's modesty plus humor. I wouldn't say it to others, I don't want it to be taken wrong, but I still think it's funny and I just want to laugh!

I honestly don't trust people who can't laugh at themselves 😂

Unless you want me to roast you? 😆

I know myself really well and like myself. So I can take it. I'm not beating myself up, that would look completely different lol I've been that low before. I just want to laugh. Dangit I'm dying to laugh.

I think it shows that a person can be self aware while also allowing people to come to terms with flaws about themselves.

I do this all the time. Sometimes it goes well, sometimes I get questions.

I also was once in a state where I beat up on myself, but I am not that way anymore. I engage in self-deprecating humor all the time, so I understand what you mean about the difference.

One perpetual source of misunderstanding is the absence of vocal inflection and facial expressions when we post. Add to that the fact that we read posts from people we don't know well, and the result is that our intention and tone will often be taken the wrong way online.

Exactly! To me, self deprecating humour is really honesty and confidence. It also serves to display humility and sharing of truth that builds bonds.
@JimboSaturn thank you!!!! If I really wanted to hurt myself I know how I would do it. Laughter frees you from the negativity and seriousness.

@MarbleMarvel I don't take myself that seriously. Plus honesty is freedom! And hell no one like a perfect person lol

I use self deprecating humour all the time!
Not out of dislike of myself.
I stsrted doing it with my OCD and actually making jokes about it made it easier.
@basilfawlty89 it does make it easier, sometimes laughter is the opposite of crying when it comes to things you can't change. I never think less of people who kid about themselves.

You can know your self worth and yet still make fun of yourself. I see it as a bit of humility along with a much needed sense of humor.
