Yesterday I had an older gentleman make eye contact with me over the gas pump and he said…”Is it hot enough for ya?” And it made my heart smile so much 🥹
I adore small talk with random strangers these days.

@PerfectionOfTheHeart you should have said , turn around and show me the rear view so I can see if it’s hot enough…….lol

@FreeSpirit1 Hahaha. Didn’t need him doing the male equivalent of clutching his pearls.

Cell phones have been a social avoidance tactic tool.. Teachers in Oklahoma are reporting since the cell phone ban this semester that students are actually making eye contact and speaking to other students in the school cafeteria now…as well as doing the same in their classes.

Oh yes, and I remember having a pager first and using pay phones. Makes me feel so old
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
@SlippingAway Haha yup. the 911 page from Dad meant CALL now
Idk how you guys survived tbh like what would you do if you were running late to meet somebody? Or there was an emergency like your wife giving birth or a loved one in the hospital? Or you needed to find a definition? Ik there was payphones but what if you ran outa money?
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
@TryingtoLava It does seem like that, but we thought how our grandparents managed without stuff we had as well ….we figure things out… hey they built pyramids before machines😀

@TryingtoLava
Running late? We paid a courtesy by phoning from home before we set out.
Caught in traffic? It was natural for those waiting for you to just wait.
On the way to the delivery room? You're already en route, so keep driving.
Definition? Dictionary.
Pay phone? We carried more spare change back then. To feed the pay phones.
It was life in those days. We felt entirely modern, asking these same questions of our grandfolks.

@TryingtoLava On those days, people help each others….even strangers too. And yes, we used to trust strangers.

Always had a quarter in my pocket. Lol
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@JackDaniels I am older than you and it was a dime back then. 👵🏻

@FreeSpirit1 Did you just reply to your own post, instead of using an alt?
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
@AdmiralPrune no I forgot to add who I was replying to
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
When in London I like to smile at strangers . . that really confuses them!
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
@SunshineGirl you get the side eye? Lol
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@FreeSpirit1 Anything ranging from mild confusion to utter panic 😅

Yes, the kind where there was always a party line. Thank God that is over
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@urbancowboy a lot of rumors got started from eavesdropping on phone calls. Every time a story is retold about someone it changes and gets new things added on
urbancowboy · M
@cherokeepatti Very true
AdmiralPrune · 41-45, M
Yes. Modern humans have little in the way of personality, thanks to technology
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
@AdmiralPrune I think it’s called TikTok brain

I still carry a quarter in my pocket in case I have to use a pay phone!
I resisted until the age of 35, then just a simple flip phone for years, got my first smart phone at 45
