A lot of employers that I've worked for, as the years have progressed they seem to want you to more and more accept direct deposit. Now I believe you can still get a paper check in the mail, but you might not always get it on that Friday when everyone else gets paid because of the mail system, it's just become easier to do direct deposit.
The money goes in automatically, you don't gotta worry, and yes it's every 2 weeks. I don't know of any employers who still do weekly.

@RedBaron they take more out of you in taxes for starters. Anything a company does, is for the sole benefit of the CEO and its shareholders. Companies don't care about the little guy, all they care about is pleasing their shareholders, and all hourly employees are expendible.
Walmart has stated in the past that a 1 year worker is the same as a 10 year worker. Trust me, it's all to screw the worker over.

Do people still get paid by cash and/or cheque/check in the USA? Here in Oz it's been almost mandatory to get paid electronically since the early 1990's.
I get paid fortnightly.

@zonavar68 usually first check might be paper until the direct deposit goes thru.

@zonavar68 you can chose. I do direct now ever since I lost two different checks once many years ago
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
@zonavar68 I haven't been paid with a paper check since the 90s.

The part time job I have uses Homebase and you can get advances on the following check. Helps sometimes.

Lol I hear ya right now. Between jobs.

Hell I used to work for a company that didn't pay you till the job was completed.
Sometimes that could be up to a month.
That was back in the 1980s

@HumanEarth A lot of professional/executive type jobs are still like that. Totally goal-oriented with a phat bonus structure tacked on. If pray tell my work stuffed up and people did not get paid on time (for my business group it's every second Thursday evening) a portion of the company would stop functioning as people would just refuse to come in without the pay stuffup being corrected.

Yep. Love those 3 check months.
RedBaron · M
@BrandNewMan That’s misleading. It’s still every two weeks.
BrandNewMan · M
@RedBaron It is not misleading at all. Most bills go out monthly, so it is a different cycle than your pay.

once a month for us on the 1st
WindTherapy · 56-60, M
@saragoodtimes The employer I've worked for nearly 40 years pays on the 1st. It took a little getting used to but I like it now. Money is there for all the big monthly bills to get them out of the way.
saragoodtimes · F
@WindTherapy he gets an electronic transfer from insurance on the first and pays his staff then. he will make advances to them in an emergency
