Childfree is my choice

When you tell people that you don't have children, they automatically think negatively of you. That you're selfish and hate children. Why does it have to be that way? There are so many that have children, that shouldn't have had them. It's better to make the choice that you know is right for you rather than having regrets.

I don't think of people who choose not to have kids as selfish or mean, I think it's just the opposite.

@Tumbleweed Exactly!

It’s one’s choice whether others like it or not.

And there are so many reasons for a couple to be childless other than personal choices.

People don’t have awareness about some medical terminologies.
Doesn’t have to be that way if you discuss the issue with more broad minded people.
I don’t think it’s anybody’s business.

People shouldn't judge as they don't know a person's circumstances. It's your choice what you decide to do. You must do what's best for you. It is just unfortunate that there are people out there who really want children and can't have due to whatever personal reasons.
People don't comprehend or empathic towards others hence failing to come in terms. You are free to live the life the way you want to, obviously because you have to live through the consequences as well.

I didn't know that. I don't have children and don't want any but I never thought it's negative outside of the country I live in now, and some other countries which I just don't know much about, but I never realized that it was important to have children in the US too. I don't understand how not having children can be selfish? I find it selfish when people have children to avoid conscription or appease inlaws, in despite of rational reasons not to have them. We only have one life anyways, it's up to every person to decide how they want to spend it.

We need transhumanism. In a hundred years we might be able to just get rid of human sexuality all together. We could alter ourselves. Machines can reproduce us far better than we can. AI can do a better job raising children. Never another abused or neglected child.

They keep telling me "just wait till you turn 50, you'll regret it and die alone"

I mostly hear that from abusive parents. It's the age they realized they needed their children so they changed their behavior towards them and became kind and loving :|

My first wife and I decided just that. It's nobody's damn business why these decisions are made.

I feel irresponsible bringing in a child into this dysfunctional world
No one's business if someone doesn't want children.

Not their lives to worry about
It's none of their business

I know from experience that some people are jealous of it. I’ve never wanted children because I was born poor and my life has been hard and I don’t want to bring someone into life the same way I had to
People can be so judgemental. Sorry.
So far if people have assumed all that without knowing anything more about me than that I’m childless, they’ve kept it to themselves. 🤨
@bijouxbroussard You've felt pressure to have a child? I remember telling my mother why I left my first partner, how I was needing something different from life, and then feeling the immediate hurt she felt? She even turned that against me saying I was hurting her and when there I had only said I don't need children. She thought I was ridiculing and hurting her by saying I don't need children?
@thewindupbirdchronicles No, I actually said the opposite. People have pretty much left me alone about it, which I appreciate. It’s probably easier to say one never had children than to recount the death of one’s only child. But generally people don’t ask me. I’m told that with strangers, my demeanor doesn’t invite personal questions.

Because most people are ignorant. It’s unfortunate but
