I haven't spoken to my 'BFF' in about two years because she's a trump supporter and an anti-vaxxer

I've pretty much forgotten about her since we've shared our differing political views, not that we got into a heated argument or anything. She hasn't tried contacting me either. Do you think the friendship is salvageable? What if I I sent her a random message out of the blue after all this time?

Honestly doesn’t really sound like there was much of a friendship if those things caused y’all to stop talking
Fullmetal · 46-50, M
@Hoodski my thoughts exactly! I don't give a fuck who you vote for, have sex with, pray to, or your personal choices! It's what's in your heart and soul that count!
RebelFox · 36-40, F
I have buddies from all walks of life, we are connected heart to heart. If this is your best friend, you could definitely learn from each other, but sounds like a weak connection.
chrisCA · M
It is worse when you have family members like that.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@chrisCA My sister and her family are that way. We just don't talk politics or religion but it's tough.
carpediem · 61-69, M
Wow. Who needs friends like you? That’s sad. But lots of people out there that do that. They’re pathetic.
Wol62 · 51-55, M
@carpediem Agreed.
Snuffy1957 · 61-69, M
@carpediem yeah with friends like her we might as well have an anti-American government trying to put socialism in this country.. oh wait we do :-(
Wol62 · 51-55, M
@Snuffy1957 No, Trump is no longer in power! He and his brand of "socialism" are no longer in vogue.
Honestly it might be for the best. It's hard to maintain friendships with people if your political views are that different. You could just leave them at the door but I find then a lot of conversations just end in an argument. For myself I'm mainly apolitical I have my views but I don't really care about other people's politics unless it really affects their personality but then I don't really like people who are overly political on either side of the spectrum.

She is no longer your BFF. I guess you'll have to live with the results of your intolerance.
Sounds shallow

I had exactly the same with a couple of friends...I do feel the friendships have suffered...and honestly, since I agree with you on both points, it is too bad but also so difficult to closely relate to people who differ so much from me.
tallpowerhouseblonde · 31-35, F
Best to just this alone and not contact her. What went on between you must have been a deal-breaker.Her and your ideals are just too far apart.
helenS · 36-40, F
It's horrible when political nonsense divides people – even friends, even family members 😕

I think if ya ditch someone, you should leave it that way.
I think it may be salvageable if you can both agree to disagree.
wackidywack · 22-25
I always think that the friendship/relationship is worth more than political views. It can work as long as there's respect for each other and that your relationship doesn't revolve around differences in a way that it magnifies them
ReneeT · 61-69, M
The way things have been going politically recently, there have been a lot of friendships strained over each beliefs. If she is too set in her ways on it, best to leave her contact you first.
plungesponge · 41-45, M
Just send her random articles to trump supporters getting arrested and ask " 'Hey that wasn't you in the news, right"
Helloeveryone · 56-60, F
well gee not sure after that last truth message
RedBaron · M
There are two possibilities.

I had a friend dump me for pretty much the same reasons. I am not so much a Trump supporter but told how I saw it with all that was going on here and my "friend" decided that made me a bad person.
Isn't that nice?
I don't think it was much of a friendship if anyone is like that.
