Is this correct English? To say “we had to do a lot of hand holding” to describe someone needs a lot of guidance 🥔🤔

I started laughing today in the middle of a meeting and it was in person too, I guess I am not used to in person meetings! I usually do this when my camera is off.

He said it twice, “I have been doing a lot of hand holding with him” 🥔😂😂😂😂

Yes it’s correct and very common. “Doing a lot of handholding” is casual, figurative language to mean anything from greatly supporting consoling, cajoling, intensive guiding, maybe even to the point of babying someone in order to complete some task, essentially. Whatever it is, they should be able to do it more independently.

“Holding someone’s hand” when worded like that could mean the same, but could also be construed by some people as actually holding hands during a task which prob isn’t very helpful when completing a task lol.
Perfectly normal…..

Yeah, I’ve heard that. The one that made me chuckle was when someone said “I can get behind that” idea. You then start looking around to see who else has their mind in the gutter 😂
yes it IS correct English
a common saying

@ineedadrink a lot of hand holding? I would say hold someone’s hand but to do a lot of hand holding? LOL
HootyTheNightOwl · 41-45
Yes, that would be accurate...

You should hear Scottish slang:
"The lad needed a lot of hand holding, because he's a bit of a spoon"
(Calling someond a spoon means they're not smart enough to be trusted with sharper objects like knives and forks).
A common expression. A lot of expressions are silly if you think about them, some are just puzzling.

@JamesBugman “ a lot of hand holding” is common. Or just hand holding? What made me laugh is the added a lot lol
