Is this correct English? To say “we had to do a lot of hand holding” to describe someone needs a lot of guidance 🥔🤔

I started laughing today in the middle of a meeting and it was in person too, I guess I am not used to in person meetings! I usually do this when my camera is off.

He said it twice, “I have been doing a lot of hand holding with him” 🥔😂😂😂😂
