Tips for pizza delivery?

I have a Domino's literally one mile from my apartment. It is literally on the same street as me.

I placed a delivery order for two large pizzas. What do you think the tip should be?

And to anyone who has done pizza delivery, why do companies charge such a high delivery fee? $5 in Domino's case, and it doesn't even go to the driver? So insane.

Oh and to anyone who wants to say "why didn't you just pick it up?", stfu. I don't want to leave my apt today. Life is like that sometimes.

Ok, I see this is 3 days old, but I'll respond. I actually have delivered for Dominos. First off, you don't get just one delivery at a time. You get multiple. The driver is responsible for making sure all the deliveries are correct before going out the door. That means all drinks, sauce cups, checking the ticket against what's in the boxes, calling mistakes in the order, ordering a reorder, handling the oven for other drivers when your turn isn't up, and more. It's chaotic

Standard tip from me on pizza delivery is 5 dollars, and that's in addition to any delivery charges at check out online.
@calicuz Wow, you're generous.
HellsBelle · 36-40, F
@calicuz Yeah I definitely don't include the "delivery fee" as part of a tip. I tip separate. I was going to tip $3 since it's so close to my place and not a lot of items.
@HellsBelle I usually tip $3
A tip for Domino delivery should be $5. But if you're in a hard to find area then it should be more. But a mile away and an easy apartment to get in and out of should be $5 to the driver.

The first tip is don't buy Domino's, buy real Italian pizza 🤌 jk

For real though, standard here is between 10-20% depending on region and quality of service.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@sstronaut Mozzarella made out of buffalo milk. Way better tasting than regular cow one (which is tasteless in comparison)

San Marzano instead is a specific variety of tomato that grows on volcanic soils and taste much better than whatever regular tomato sauces most pizzerias use

Yeah but as I said those combo exist also here. Except you get them on actual pizza dough and not frozen / fastfood ones 😜
basilfawlty89 · 36-40, M
@sstronaut because we need the opinin of an actual Italian, and I am not in the mafi-I mean Italian.
@basilfawlty89 Well the Mafia Pizza is an American Pizza

And Americans are the ones that started loading a-lot-a meats onto the pizza... and created Pepperoni and adding the Pepperoni to the Pizzas.

My understanding if you order a Pepperoni Pizza in Italia, you might get a Bell Pepper Pizza

@SinlessOnslaught if you tipped $2 on a trip that short, I don't know many drivers that would even do it for $4 total.
@JonLosAngeles66 If you're in LA I can understand. I'm in what you might consider a small city. A dollar per mile was standard for me.
@SinlessOnslaught I get that.

10% is fair but Tip what you want... i think the whole thing is a gimmick. I never tip and I never do delivery.
HellsBelle · 36-40, F
@Jokersswild I was going to tip $3 since it's so close and only 2 items. By your math I would tip 2.5. My order was $25 (after all the fees). You never tip ever? Not even restaurants? While tipping IS an insane U.S culture thing, the workers really don't get paid much. And yeah I know that's not the consumers fault but it's reality. I worked at steak and shake for a day, once. My wage was $2.50 an hour, since they expected people to tip. I don't know what the hourly wage is for delivery drivers but I imagine it's the same.
20% is fairly safe.

$20 order tip them $4

$40 tip them $8 et c.
seaglass · F
15%, but I don't order delivery anymore since fees went up about a year ago
HellsBelle · 36-40, F
@seaglass I really didn't want to do delivery but it's one of those days I just want to be a hermit. You are right though, the fees and taxes have gotten INSANE. Domino's is doing 50% off all pizzas this week but once they add the delivery fee and taxes, it's cancels itself out.
seaglass · F
@HellsBelle I understand... I almost order 5 Guys all the time, lol. And that's a pretty good deal, 50% off. That could sway me too
Wallflow3r · 26-30, F
I just tip 15% which is usually less then $5.00
2 dollars and
@FreeSpirit1 *applies for pizza delivery guy in your neighborhood, but tips you 5 bucks in return 🤭
@FreeSpirit1 and all this time I give $5 and don't wear underwear. when did the rules change
gandalf1957 · 61-69, M
@FreeSpirit1 a flash for the delivery boy then?
DownTheStreet · 56-60, M
I tip more if the delivery woman is hot. I’m shallow that way, but I’m comfortable with it.
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
Tipping doesn't happen here so can't really say.
SledgeHammer · 46-50, M
If the delivery driver carries parmesan cheese and peppers... I give them $5

If not -- they get $3

It depends in large part on how fast you want your pizza. $5 is standard, and you'll get it within a reasonable amount of time.
Stacy03 · 18-21, F
We always give fifteen percent or five dollars whichever is more
dale74 · M
I would just walk down and pick it up
10% generally
Iwillwait · M
Tip should be the same as if you were ten blocks away.
Iwillwait · M
@HellsBelle Cost of Convenience. Yes, I tip all wait staff a min of 20% regardless of service, Items ordered.

Delivery drivers $10 min.
HellsBelle · 36-40, F
@Iwillwait You would tip $10 on a $25 order, with the delivery on the same road a mile away??? Can't tell if you are flexing or just a chump
