Why would anyone just order a plain cheese pizza when the toppings are so much better?

My mother and grandmother immigrated from Italy. The pizza they made, and the pizza that was available at the local pizza joints in NYC back then, were very simple.

Cheese pizza was a staple.

We ate pizza as a side dish to accompany a meal or as a snack. And in a really good traditional Italian pizza it's the dough itself that takes center stage. But the big pizza companies today are selling a very different product.

I suppose this is not an answer to your question about contemporary pizza, but you triggered some childhood memories and I felt compelled to talk about them.

I do that most of the times… my favorite kind of pizza especially if crunchy …

I dunno one of the places nearby has this fancy 4 cheese pizza which is pretty much to die for, I order it every time.

I like the meat lovers type.

Because cheese pizza is the best pizza

IMO, pizza is suppose to be dough, tomato sauce and cheese. Adding spices to the sauce such as garlic or onion is fine, but when you start adding meats, other veggies, or even fruit, it takes away the flavor of the pizza.

My grand daughters order a pizza without red sauce, or a margarita pizza. Personally, I like mine with pepperoni.

If the pizza I get is plain: it is (A) cheaper and (B) I can put things on it the pizzeria doesn't offer...

I love salami pizza with green peppers. Or just cheese too. I cant go wrong with any pizza 😋

Nothing wrong with a plain pizza sans toppings. But it’s everyone’s choice.

I often eat plain cheese pizza. I’m a picky eater though

Because cheese pizza is delicious, too, especially with different types of cheese. Everyone doesn’t have to do stuff the same way. C’mon— live and let live 🙂

Gf does the same thing. BORING. SO many great toppings that really bring out a ton of flavor.
