Sometimes I feel bad about eating meat

😟
4meAndyou · F
That's sort of how Catholic girls feel about having sex outside of marriage. They feel guilty about it, but they do it anyway...🤣🤣🤣
4meAndyou · F
@WandererTony I guess that works both ways, then. I am VERY AWESOMELY SUPER grateful to you for telling me about Tulsi! You MIGHT have actually changed my life!!!!
@4meAndyou thank goodness for Catholic girls 😉
HumanEarth · 56-60, M
Right, Stacy, I almost did the famous line “Why don't you come up and see me sometime?” said by Mae West. For my dirty joke of the day, but maybe next time. I am too much of Crossdressing God for Her to Handle, and she knows it.

(@4meAndyou Just getting even for something you didn't do YET) Hahahaha
Why? If it could, meat would eat you....
@Notsimilarreally they all can breed in the wild and they all occasionally eat meat, though some clearly are more rare that others.

But chicken/birds, pigs and goats will basically eat anything they can get their mouths on.

Cows and deer are much more likely to stick to a vegetarian diet but one in a blue moon if the opportunity presents it self, they'll try meat too. Just like once in a wild predators will try a fruit.

@Piper The conversation wasn't about what they typically do, it was simple about what they do, and really it was just a joke that certain people are taking way way wwwwwway too serious.

@basilfawlty89 do we? Or do we simply have the highest ego, and enjoy putting ourselves on the pedestal of being better than all other animals, as Dolphins including the orca whale are extremely smart, and they still eat plenty of meat.

So people died from a bridge being built, does that mean we should boycott all bridges?
Notsimilarreally · 31-35, F
@sstronaut ok, well, whatever the case I myself as a human have a conscience which they do not. I'm also not one for the eye for an eye motto necessarily. So 🤷🏻‍♀️
@Notsimilarreally Yeah, that's cool, as I stated, my original comment was mainly just a joke to be funny and based on your reaction emoji to it, you took it that way 😁

I'm just pro everyone making their own diet choice for themselves and not enforcing their dieting ways on others.

You know, assuming they can take care of themselves. IE, kids might get less of a choice, of people that overeat to the point they can't move need to be put on a better diet, etc etc

Well. We are omnivores. Its a part of our nature. We could respect the source of the food perhaps, but not feel bad for eating it.

Just like a wolf doesnt feel bad for eating a rabbit. Its a victory that he got to eat that day.

Though humans do have a conscious. And we do hold value to life. So just as a tribal culture would, we could be sure not to waste any part of the animal and give thanks for what they have given us to sustain our own life.
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
@BittersweetPotato humans have been eating meat since the beggining of time... we do in fact have teeth to shred meat. We do have digestive organs and enzymes to eat meat. The taste of things is aquired by a life time of eating what ever you eat. After generations of eating cooked and processed foods our bodies are becoming adapted to that. So yeah. Your immune system and bodily functions arent as strong as they used to be because we have been sheltered by our creations for thousands of years. Our mouths are even getting smaller because of generations of eating with utensils in smaller portions. This is why some people have to get there molars removed. Being a vegan is a personal choice based on an ideology. Just like the lgtb thing. Our species has 2 genders regaurdless of what you think in this era.

I did too, sometimes. Then one day, I felt bad enough to just go ahead and stop eating it.

⬆️

It doesn't have to be this way. 💝
Ontheroad · M
I get that... Maybe in earlier times, it was what we (humans) did to better survive and flourish, but today it isn't necessary.

It is hard though, to switch from being a carnivore/omnivore to a strictly herbivore diet.
BittersweetPotato · 31-35, F
@Ontheroad I swear I am starting to suspect for real that you are Degbeme 🥔🤣
Ontheroad · M
@BittersweetPotato Nope, but I have a deal with him... if he is busy, I need to keep you in line😁
BittersweetPotato · 31-35, F
@Ontheroad EVIL HUMANS WON'T LET POTATO REST 🥔😡🥺

Since you already feel bad, start educating yourself more on the way animals are treated, the harms it does to the environment and to your own body and you will just get rid of it altogether.

Meat literally has no benefits that don't exist in plants, the only difference is that the benefits it gives you, are packaged with so many other downside harmful factors like antibiotic resistance, cholesterol, saturated fat, and cancer links.
So you are after the protein, but along with it, you are getting all the other bad things. Thats of course apart from the fact that you are killing animals (torturing them before being killed) and hurting the environment too.
BittersweetPotato · 31-35, F
@Notsimilarreally The only good reason for eating meat is its taste and being lazy and or disciplined to make the change. I like when people are upfront about their reasons for justifying. But when peop start covering up the bad that's coming out of it which is way more than the benefits that we can actually get elsewhere and better quality too, that gets on my nerves. Like people shouldn't lie to themselves and others.
Notsimilarreally · 31-35, F
@BittersweetPotato true I think a lot of people don't realize the reality of what happens to the animals and all of the damage that comes from processing. People don't know, don't care to find out because they don't want to know, they just want to eat it guilt free. And I've never really thought about it until recently so I really am not judging. It's ingrained into our lifestyles. The negative isn't taught. It's just how it is unfortunately

Me too. I used to be vegan but started eating animal products when I was in the psych hospital. I was pretty desperate for any pleasant stimuli. I'm in a much better place (physically and mentally) and probably should be vegan again, but it really feels like a futile effort. The measurable material change in the world from me eating animal products doesn't seem to extend beyond my diet and occasionally feeling guilty. I know there are game theory arguments you can make that suggest I should be vegan anyway, but I can't internalize them I guess.
calicuz · 51-55, M
Why, do you feel bad for the animal?
Notsimilarreally · 31-35, F
@calicuz yes.
calicuz · 51-55, M
@Notsimilarreally

Don't feel bad, when "slaughtered" properly they do not suffer.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@calicuz but is ethical to raise something that can think and feel for the sole purpose of killing it?
Not me. lol. Just do it in moderation
Lilnonames · F
@Lilnonames love a cow. Lol
I can understand that sometimes. But we need animal protein.
JPWhoo · 36-40, MVIP
Me too when I stop and think about it, but I think I prefer to continue eating meat and try not to think about it very often. Because I hate to think about animals getting killed just so I can eat them, but I enjoy eating them so much I don’t want to have to give that up.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
I do too if it seems odd.
Go to the food bank and take the meat that the middle class threw out in your town today.
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
Do you cry onto your steak and chicken fajitas… after the first bite the guilt goes away.

And if you’re bored, you can read the 300 page study linked in there 🤣
Gringo · 46-50, M
Because of animals or because of health?
DDonde · 31-35, M
What bothers me isn't the killing and eating of animals. But the kind of farming and genetic engineering of animals that happens to make animals into broken versions of themselves to maximize production. Like chickens that are made to become so big that it breaks their legs and they can't walk. That part sickens me. Not every farm does this and I have cousins who are farmers that don't do that. But some larger scale industrial places do.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
I did too.
Then I stopped 21 years ago.
Haven't had meat since.
Notsimilarreally · 31-35, F
@basilfawlty89 it takes discipline, that I am sure of. Good job!
Jexie · 22-25, F
Sometimes it really hits you when you come across something. I like watching Bear Grylls and there was this fat sheep just roaming around in the wild and he grabbed it and I thought he was gonna eat it but when he didn't I was kinda relieved. But that really hit home that animals get killed for meat all the time.
