That's corporate greed, a reoccuring theme today
NativePortlander1970 · 51-55
@unregisteredhypercam4 95% ofcDonald's are franchised out, the owners set the local prices, corporate only takes the fees.
unregisteredhypercam4 · 22-25, M
@NativePortlander1970 Which are getting bigger and bigger
twiigss · M
One thing that I always used to think as a kid going to McDonalds when looking at the menu, I would say to myself:
"Wow, a hamburger is only $0.59 and a cheeseburger is $0.69. If I had a dollar and gave it to a homeless person for food, they could afford a sandwich at McDonalds"
Not anymore!! $20 I don't know about, but probably. Didn't Big Macs use to be something like $2.79 for the meal? Crazy how prices have gone up on everything through the years.

A bk combo is close to $15 now. It’s best to cook your own food. Cheaper and healthier imo
separatetheheart · 31-35, M
@Younameit That's wild and for a single person too.
Adrift · 61-69, F
The size of the burgers are considerably smaller too.
I remember getting a McDonald's big mac when I was over at a Friend's house and not being able to eat the whole thing.

@Adrift My oldest cousin met her husband when they worked at a Chicago area McDonald's back in the mid 70's, he was a grill cook and told me that the regular patties were 6:1, meaning six uncooked patties equaled a pound. When I was a McDonald's grill cook briefly in early 2015, the regular uncooked patties were 10:1, now I am told they are 12:1, half the size they were 50 years ago.
itsok · 31-35, F
It has definitely gotten way more expensive, but it’s still possible if you do the $5 meal deals or use the app for deals and rewards.
separatetheheart · 31-35, M
@itsok the app is the way to go
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
It did. I've heard you can get better prices buying via the app but I refuse to put a fastfood app on my phone.
Hell, there are doordash places that are cheaper than McDonald's now- with much better burgers/menu options. Not many but I know we've found some.

Our family never had McDonalds for a meal when I was growing up. There were McDonalds in town but so many other good places to get food to take home…fried chicken stands, hamburger stands, etc.
HoeBag · 51-55, F
It used to be that luxuries were expensive and necessities like food were cheap.
That has totally done a 180.
For fast food, it isn't even worth it anymore. Supposedly some of them have been scaling back on prices because of lowered sales.

Fast food is so expensive now! It’s almost $40 for 2 people..
4meAndyou · F
I suggest going to BREAKFAST at McDonalds instead of lunch or dinner. You can get a $5 breakfast combo which includes a sausage egg McMuffin.

This is why I am choosing to grow my own food this year. Whatever healthy options I can.
Lostpoet · M
And the food isn't as good and the portions are smaller.
Lilymoon · F
You're better off giving your money to Mom and Pop places which are healthier and probably cheaper than the chains.
People are lazy and just want drive-thru.

A family of 4 for under $5 when burgers were 15 cents!
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
Everything is going up!
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
Just cook it at home
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
@cherokeepatti I much rather cook hamburgers at home. I can make a few extras for the hudband can eat at work if he wanted
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@smileylovesgaming Yeah, I chop up onions and put in mine and season them much better. No other things to add as cheap fillers, no chemicals in what I cook either.
PatKirby · M
@smileylovesgaming
I cooked three cheese lasagna for about twenty bucks total last weekend. Super delicious, filling and my cousins wolfed it down like there was no tomorrow.

Cheaper and better for you to make your own meals.
Musicman · 61-69, M
You are not crazy. When I was a kid you got a cheeseburger, fries and a soda. Their advertising use to say "Change back from your dollar".
Monalisasmith86 · 36-40, F
Yes I’m sure it was difficult but you learned something valuable @Musicman
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Musicman the irony was that he would spend a lot of money on alcohol and cigarettes daily yet deny us cheap treats
Musicman · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti I am so sorry to hear that 😥
YoMomma ·
Sounds about right
ididntknow · 56-60, M
You’d be a lot healthier without McDonald’s 🤮🤮🤮
ididntknow · 56-60, M
@Monalisasmith86 ok good luck 🤞
Monalisasmith86 · 36-40, F
@ididntknow I’m not fat ok
ididntknow · 56-60, M
@Monalisasmith86 you carry on telling yourself that
FreeorLonely · 51-55, F
You’re not wrong, the garbage is expensive now.
Roundandroundwego · 61-69
In the late nineties a happy meal was three dollars.
separatetheheart · 31-35, M
@Roundandroundwego The toys were cooler too. My mom took us there often
helenoftroy2000 · 22-25, F
Instead of 4 it's 2.5 now
NativePortlander1970 · 51-55
separatetheheart · 31-35, M
@NativePortlander1970 That's my go to meal actually. Medium with a dr.pepper
NativePortlander1970 · 51-55
@separatetheheart Insane that it costs almost three times more than when you were born.
separatetheheart · 31-35, M
@NativePortlander1970 It's just wild how much it costs nowadays. I went to wendys not long ago and it was pushing $15 for just me.
