Several places in the UK, but the batter is the secret as much as the quality of the fish. AND it's not fries for us Brits...it's thick cut chips (not sure what that is in US English but it's not what we call crisps).

@FreddieUK I think we may call them cottage fries in the US. Though I don’t think there is a definitive standard for fries here.

Great Yarmouth UK. Huge queue of people, so I thought it's got to be good. They cooked it the old fashioned way in beef dripping. The batter was crunchy and the chips crispy. Had to watch the seagulls though as they dive bomb your food and steal it.

@meggie A lifetime ago I was a frequent visitor to RAF Mildenhall and just a block from the main gate there was a fish and chips to die for. I think I spent about 6 months off and on there, a week or 2 or 3 at a time. I still remember that fish and chips. :)

The Oyster Barn Ceduna South Australia. The shop doesn't look like much but the fish and chips are worth driving across the Nullarbor for.
The Flying Fish, next to the lawn bowls club, at Port Eliot South Australia. Is a close second. The use a Pale ale in the batter. Very good.

WintaTheAngle · 41-45, M
@MissSmee It’s the original name for the land. I think it means headland because it’s a peninsula.
MissSmee · 31-35, F
