@ElwoodBlues Two new cultivars I've had in the past couple of years are Crimson Crisp and Ruby Frost. Both very good.

@windinhishair Thanks, I will keep an eye out in my neighborhood! I wonder if cultivars are somewhat regional, because I don't recognize either of those names; don't think I've seen them here in the northeast.

@ElwoodBlues The Agricultural Station out of Geneva NY is always releasing new varieties, but they take awhile to make their way to Pennsylvania and New England.

honey crisp or Granny Smiths.
my favorite was off my grandfathers tree, that is long gone. I don't know what they were though. I just remember that when you bit them the flesh turned pink and they made pink apple sauce. I wish I knew what sort of apples they were.
