Why I stopped cooking things from scratch

My dad, when I give him something I just spent over an hour seasoning just right, inevitably, invariably, and predictably goes for the salt and covers every inch of it.

My immediate response? The gut reaction to seeing that? "I'm sorry you think this dish is going to be so terrible. I'll never make anything for you again."

A man that old probably can barely taste shit, that's why he feels like he needs so much of the stuff. I know that doesn't make it feel much better though...

@BlueVeins He's been in the habit of doing that since he was in his 40s. I just wasn't doing the cooking in those days.

It's very very very hard to break people out of habits, as I've learned with my father in law. He sees food, he salts it before tasting, ever time, because "seaoning properly" is literally not something in their approach to food. You just put salt on food when you get it.

This is also a dude who will literally cook a steak for a half an hour.

So I just make it a little blander and let him have at. I gave up trying to push his palate because neither of us were happy about it.

... I wonder part if part of why I still sometimes do push my dad's palate is because he's not happy about it. Hmmm.🤔😆

Adding salt is like a compulsion with some people I think..like kids pouring ketchup on everything
Salt isn't always about the food. It's necessary for the body to absorb water. I add salt to my own cooking when I feel dehydrated

Get rid of the salt or have the salt shaker only shake a small bit at a time.
