Why I stopped cooking things from scratch

My dad, when I give him something I just spent over an hour seasoning just right, inevitably, invariably, and predictably goes for the salt and covers every inch of it.

My immediate response? The gut reaction to seeing that? "I'm sorry you think this dish is going to be so terrible. I'll never make anything for you again."

It's very very very hard to break people out of habits, as I've learned with my father in law. He sees food, he salts it before tasting, ever time, because "seaoning properly" is literally not something in their approach to food. You just put salt on food when you get it.

This is also a dude who will literally cook a steak for a half an hour.

So I just make it a little blander and let him have at. I gave up trying to push his palate because neither of us were happy about it.

... I wonder part if part of why I still sometimes do push my dad's palate is because he's not happy about it. Hmmm.🤔😆
