What is your favorite brand ? I was at a cafe last week having brunch with a friend and had the best coffee I’d tasted in years. I loved it so much I had four cups ! I didn’t think about it at the time, but I may call them and ask what brand they use. Which do you like best ?
@Elessar Who makes a better soap, in your opinion: an enthusiastic individual manufacturer of soap (a soap boiler) in his or her workshop, or the chemical industry?
@helenS I'm not sure about soap, but in general, the enthusiastic individual manufacturer. However the chemical industry will have a (much) greater volume of sales because
1) they can sell their products for less, due to optimizing the whole production and distribution chain (sacrificing quality to some degree in the process) and 2) will reach many, many more people than any small shop could hope to
@Elessar Developing an appropriate drying curve is almost impossible if you don't have highly sophisticated equipment (humidity sensors, temperature controllers etc). A brand-new bar of soap is usually smooth with an even surface, but with time and use, cracks will appear on the bar. If the humidity content is only a few percent wrong, the soap bar will look ugly soon.
🤗 yes, do ask... if i am served a particularly good coffee somewhere, i always try to find out what beans they use, and what roast.
i avoid the main international brand coffee shops, they are popular here but their coffee is not to my taste. there are three or four independent coffee houses i use, both to drink and to buy beans for home.
@SwampFlower Back then, the family launched three "variations" of their coffee; roasted beans, pre-ground (although some accredited stores would grind your beans for you) and, coffee bags - like tea bags.
None were blended. All were pure Blue Mountain coffee, all tasted amazing, even the "instant" coffee bags.
@bijouxbroussard The company is Blue Mountain Coffee. Sounds pretty obvious right? However, the thing is, the name, of all coffee from the Blue Mountain range, is regulated by the Jamaica Coffee Board. On the one hand, it's a pretty good marketing tool because every buyer knows that the product is legit and of great quality. On the other hand, it does make it rather hard to develop a unique brand identity.
Anyway, the family that I worked with were the Langfords. This was in the mid 1980's and the father still ran the show. One of the sons, Gordon, came to London to launch the brand and the overall export activities of the company. Again, highly regulated by the Jamaica Coffee Board. Last I heard, he had moved to the USA. Don't know where in the USA.
Green Mountain Dark Magic (drink it black, no sugar) and Nespresso Double Espresso Scuro, Dark Roast Espresso (my morning and after dinner cappuccino).
Funny thing. I don't think I'm a natural coffee drinker 1) because it doesn't really do much for ADHD and 2) because I've never really been able to taste a difference in coffees. I know bitter and gross and I know smooth and less bitter, but coffee has always been pretty indistinguishable for me. Maybe with the right brand...
@Graylight yes , you had to guess the brand . There was a lot of paraments you could taste . It was done in order to learn hot to detect cheaters among producers.
I have mornings when I like to put more effort into it and I’ll grind up some lavazza espresso italiano or some beans called “bird of paradise” from the local co-op. On the lazy mornings when the idea of effort is laughable, I have door county ground coffee in highlander grogg or jamaican me crazy (which I like to say as much as I like to drink 😆). Hope you find out what it was! 😄👍
Don't remember the name of it, (Should have kept the packet) It was grown and roasted locally and sold at grocery store that specialises in locally made foods. $10 for 150grms which makes it rather pricey but worth it.
There's a spot whose coffee I'd go through considerable trouble and expense to get to. Simple, unadulterated, heaven in a cup. I've no idea the brand though.
Had a few espressos that were perfection, including a company from California...I want to say Sunrise Coffee, but it was a while ago.
I dislike the taste of coffee but felt like being a part of your happy moments. Plz do ask them and get it to enjoy more of it. Might the same company too add to it.
@sspec Thank you ! Unfortunately they refused to tell me what it was when I phoned the next day, advised me it was a "private company" the restaurant uses. Ah, well. I’ve been investigating some of the brands mentioned by others. 🙂
