To those who love coffee…

What is your favorite brand ?
I was at a cafe last week having brunch with a friend and had the best coffee I’d tasted in years. I loved it so much I had four cups ! I didn’t think about it at the time, but I may call them and ask what brand they use.
Which do you like best ?

Blue Mountain from Costco. It's a fan favorite at my house but you have to grind it yourself.
@SwampFlower I always loved blue mountain. It was always a treat, though, kind of expensive here. 🙂

@bijouxbroussard it's $12 here for two pounds at Costco. It is ridiculous at Amazon or anywhere else.

@SwampFlower Many, many, many years ago, I worked on the promo campaign for Blue Mountain in the UK. I was commissioned by the family that owned the plantation in Jamaica.

It never really took off in the UK, probably far too expensive for the Brit market. The family then turned their attentions to the US. It's kind of sad that such a premium product is sold at Costco🤷‍♂️

@SwampFlower Back then, the family launched three "variations" of their coffee; roasted beans, pre-ground (although some accredited stores would grind your beans for you) and, coffee bags - like tea bags.

None were blended. All were pure Blue Mountain coffee, all tasted amazing, even the "instant" coffee bags.
@room101 Do you remember the company name ? Does it still exist ?

@bijouxbroussard The company is Blue Mountain Coffee. Sounds pretty obvious right? However, the thing is, the name, of all coffee from the Blue Mountain range, is regulated by the Jamaica Coffee Board. On the one hand, it's a pretty good marketing tool because every buyer knows that the product is legit and of great quality. On the other hand, it does make it rather hard to develop a unique brand identity.

Anyway, the family that I worked with were the Langfords. This was in the mid 1980's and the father still ran the show. One of the sons, Gordon, came to London to launch the brand and the overall export activities of the company. Again, highly regulated by the Jamaica Coffee Board. Last I heard, he had moved to the USA. Don't know where in the USA.

Found this on YouTube. Worth a watch.
