Most of us in this area of Texas had never heard of Tim Horton,, but they are building one of the coffee shops near us now. Fortunately, a local Canadian educated us.

@SandWitch A moose skin parka and walrus skin pants oh your outfit was perfect. 👍

@lumberjackslam
Okay, so you did see me. I apologize for doubting you.

@Sevendays
Very funny! I was testing the authenticity of lumberjack's testimony if you really need to know.

I live where the most famous hockey game in America was played. USA vs Russia in 1980.
Ynotisay · M
@Sevendays I live in a mountain resort area so I get that. It's happened everywhere. Big money moves in and locals get screwed. Reason #21 I think short term rentals need to be banned because they've had a definite influence.
Sevendays · M
@Ynotisay they definitely have made fewer homes available for buyers. Many of the locals who did live here sold their houses for inflated prices and moved to Saranac Lake
Ynotisay · M
@Sevendays Yeah. People leave. And I imagine the same thing will play out in Saranac Lake. What's happened where I am is that less people are willing to rent to locals because they know people are out there wanting investment properties. No housing means workers leave and businesses close. But the STR thing has a ceiling and a whole lot of people who bought them, sometimes without even seeing them in person, are getting hammered. They're not making their nut. So they try to get out but the asking price is set to cover their losses. It's a vicious cycle.

Crashed his Ford Pantera on the highway. So sad. His doughnuts and coffee live on. 🍩☕
Ynotisay · M
@Sevendays And he was wasted. Bad decision.
Sevendays · M
@Ynotisay yes. I heard that he was drinking and taking pain killer as he had taken a puck to the face.

Tim Horton was on his way TO Buffalo, he was not traveling from Buffalo.

On his way to Buffalo, he stopped in Oakville Ontario at his doughnut shop business office and called his brother on the phone who noted that Tim sounded very drunk. He tried to persuade Tim to stay in Oakville for the night, but Tim pressed on and drove to Buffalo anyway.

Upon arriving in St. Catharines at the Lake Street exit while fleeing police who'd been called by a woman who reported a fast moving car, Tim lost control of his sports car as it entered the center median which was a grassy area separating the eastbound and westbound lanes of Queen Elizabeth Highway.

Upon entering the grassy center median, his left front tire caught a recessed steel water drain which then flipped his car upside down causing it to land on it's roof.

Tim's body was ejected from the car because he wasn't wearing a seatbelt and was found 137 feet away from his car in the center median.

Tim Horton was a real person? Here I thought it was just that chain with a million stores with really lousy coffee.
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
@Neman1622 Yes he was, look it up on Wikipedia.
swirlie · 31-35, F
@Neman1622
It's only lousy coffee in the Tim Horton franchises in the USA, but not Canada which is where Tim Horton was from.
ineedadrink · 51-55, M
Well, far more cups hoisted at his coffee shops then at the hockey arena in Toronto.
RenFur · 70-79, M
No one wanted to get in a fight with him. Perhaps the strongest and toughest hockey player of them all.
Sevendays · M
@RenFur yep, he was a tough guy and, overall, a great player.
RenFur · 70-79, M
@Sevendays

The Russians loved the guy. The Russian hockey players, I mean. This was way before The Summit Series in '72.
He died 20 years before I was born - what do you expect???
Sevendays · M
@HootyTheNightOwl I have no expectations.
Jeephikelove · 46-50, F
Well because most of us are too young or weren’t born yet. 😕
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
Have you ever been to Canada?
Sevendays · M
@Sidewinder Many times. It isn't far from where I am.
lumberjackslam · 41-45, M
donuts don't really seem a natural choice for an athlete but Ive heard their calorie habits are like double the average persons needs
swirlie · 31-35, F
@lumberjackslam
What makes you think Tim Horton promoted donuts for athletes?
lumberjackslam · 41-45, M
@swirlie I don't think that. He promoted donuts for slobs. Athletes don't live off of donuts unless they're John Daly.
swirlie · 31-35, F
It was also 60 years ago in 1964 that Tim Horton started his Tim Horton coffee franchising in Hamilton Ontario, Canada which operated for 10 years prior to his death.
