exexec Tim Horton started playing hockey with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the mid-1950's. He then played for several American leagues until his untimely death in 1974.
He owned one coffee shop in Hamilton Ontario, which is at the extreme west end of Lake Ontario in the Great Lakes Region. He then opened up about 140 more restaurants across Canada, but after his death, his business partner expanded the Tim Horton's franchise to include 4,300 coffee shop/restaurants in Canada alone, before selling Tim Horton franchises in the USA.
The franchise itself never did very well in the USA because the Brand name could not be monitored very well from Head Office in Canada, which meant that Tim Horton's in the USA ended up serving sub-standard grades of coffee and food to it's customers which would never have been permitted in Canada.
In Canada, the grade of Columbian coffee that Tim's Canada purchases wholesale is the best you can buy and the food quality is also tightly monitored. Not so in the USA unfortunately.
