Chocolate is nasty now

It started with the Cadbury bars a few years ago, they wouldn't melt right and they taste weird like there's gum or starch in it or something. Now lindt tastes the same.
I'm actually chucking out a lindt bunny for the first time in my entire life because it tastes awful. Not sweet, not chocolatey, just a faint hint of cheap tasting chocolate (like advent calendar chocolate from the nintees) and this bizarre starchy taste and texture. Am I imagining it?

I’m not a chocolate connoisseur, but I tend to go with Ghirardelli’s, the chocolate that I loved as a child.

However, I do know that in the U.S. we were shortchanged with Cadbury. I tasted a bar in London when I visited years ago and was shocked at how much better it tasted than Cadbury here.
I could really see a difference.

@bijouxbroussard years ago it would have been nice but I think now it probably tastes more like in the us. It's not anywhere near what it was before Kraft bought them.
If you want a taste of how Cadbury should taste you have to eat the flake bars BC I heard they couldn't change the recipe BC it wouldn't work

I believe some Lindt products (namely chocolate boxes) went down already a few years ago. But I'm still not sure if I just had too much of it and it lost its appeal or the quality really went down. But generally, Lindt isn't worth its price. You can get better stuff for less money.

@CrazyMusicLover Lindt definitely overcharge, I can only buy it on offer. But I'm properly put off chocolate at this point
Won't be buying it any more 😔

@Vengabus I bought Snickers the other day because it was on discount and with this brand it's always hit or miss. Sometimes it tastes perfect, other times it's quite crappy. Maybe it depends on how fresh it is and how it was stored.

The brand I currently like the most is J.D. Gross. Considering that their products are presented as cheap knock-offs they are in fact very good. Merci is fine too and also this one from Kaufland.

@CrazyMusicLover oh yeah, I'll probably check Lidl and try some different brands out. J.d. gross is nice
I do find it more artificial but still love it ,my favourite will always be very dark however like 75 min ,up to 95 . Plus a lot of health benefits to it.

@PepsiColaP dark choc is nice yeah, my favourite was always bourneville which doesn't seem to taste different so far

@Vengabus 🤔you could be right about chocolate taste changing could be a case of your palere eoo why it tastes different i assume you checked the sell by date
Vengabus · 36-40
@smiler2012 yeah sell by date is fine. I did think about maybe it was just my taste changing but I don't think it would happen in stages through different chocolate makes. Plus manufacturers have been finding ways to make their products for cheaper and cheaper for years, they want to make these things for dirt cheap and sell them for the maximum profit. Bags of crisps are more air than they've ever been, for example (potato chips)

@pripyatamusementpark it's not my fault they're cheapin out
Lindt admits its chocolate isn't actually 'expertly crafted with the finest ingredients' in lawsuit over lead levels in dark chocolate.
Vengabus · 36-40
@Underconstruction yeah I saw that headline when I was googling it earlier

Chocolate is never nasty.
Selah ·
Its hard to keep the price of chocolate low without forced labor so youll have to settle for nasty chocolate.
Vengabus · 36-40
@Selah chocolate is a luxury good, maybe it shouldn't be cheap. Maybe we shouldn't be able to buy it every week
But honestly there are more billionaires in the world today than ever and that's no coincidence

After COVID the head of the company I worked for gave himself a 4.7 million pound bonus...because the company did well during COVID. People at the top are greedy, that's all this is about
