Geesh my oven is so darn weird when baking anything.

I normally don't bake breads or desserts. Yet this blows my mind.

Tonight I decided to do so and baked both crescents and cookies at the same time.

The times and temperatures were similar yet only just a bit different.

For the crescents it says 350°f for 12 to 15 minutes

For the chocolate chip cookies it says to bake at 375°f for 8 to 12 minutes for small cookies and 9 to 11 for large cookies.

So thinking to do both I used 350°f and perhaps a bit longer. As well put the cookies on the bottom shelf and the crescents on the top shelf.

As you can see the crescents turned out perfectly. Unfortunately not so for the cookies which were a total loss being mostly burnt, all but the largest. Too embarrassed to post a picture how badly the cookies were burnt. My peanut butter cookies turn out a whole lot better than these.

Ive learned that it doesnt like to cook but on one rack.

@DeWayfarer
And i bet his employer thought is was just spiffy that he had someone so in need of income that they would work away with no overtime.
Ive know people to do a similar thing...working with two different job descriptions. That was a long time ago.
Fifteen an hour at eighty hours a week still leaves workers two grand short of a cali living wage...

@Carla yeah his friend a single store franchise owner was very thrilled.

I just figured it out. He couldn't work more than 40 hours, so at $15 dollars per hour and figuring 15% standard deductions and two shifts he would be making now 53,040 per year.

Your 2,000 grand difference just turned into a lot more.

@DeWayfarer it did.
I find it is better to just cook one thing at a time. It is hard to adjust times when cooking two or more dishes that require different temperatures. Finally I have a stove with a working oven. It has been years. Now I can cook and bake again.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@PoetryNEmotion might have to do that. At my old place I just didn't have an oven. Just a stove top.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
The heater is at the bottom so the pan got too hot. There are insulated cookie sheets available but usually just put them in the center. A sheet of foil on the pan can also help as it will create a bit of insulation.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Tastyfrzz did the foil trick with the smaller cookies. They were burnt worse than the larger ones. 😖
How low did you have the shelf? Shoulda raised it higher and checked on it after so many minutes? Did you set the timer for the cookies since they have a shorter time frame?
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@SStarfish I figured the lower temperature by 25 degrees would make up for a longer time.

Obviously that didn't work. 😞
A few minutes.. not the full other time.. ah well @DeWayfarer

I would love to bake my own bread. The bread in the stores is shite 😞
Lilymoon · F
@DeWayfarer One of these days I'mma learn how... there are apparently some pretty easy recipes out there that don't require kneading or a bread maker...
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Lilymoon my half brother managed to make a decent banana bread and I have done the same with a chocolate chip muffin bread. ...

Next time try swapping the trays halfway through (move bottom tray to top)

And check bottoms to be sure

My oven is electric and I hate it.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@WaryWitchWandering will have to at least move the bottom up at least one level up if not two. There's four levels so it might be tight.
Gusman · 61-69, M
Next time, take the cookies out 3 minutes earlier?
Remove quickly to preserve as much heat in the oven.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Gusman I'll keep that in mind.
Gangstress · 41-45, F
I think you should took the cookies out earlier. I dont do well at baking or cooking lol
FurryFace · 61-69, M
yeah we rarely wanna video our disasters , lol
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@FurryFace and the small ones were really burnt solid! 😆

No way to scrape off the bottom or such.
FurryFace · 61-69, M
