Did you have a fake ID?

Yes. That's why I'm an alcoholic today.
No. I was a goody-two-shoes and too scared to get in trouble.
It was real. But somebody else.

No.

I would not dream of using a false one anyway.

This question is the forum about alcohol so I assume refers to proving age for buying alcohol. I was never asked to do that even in my late-teens!

.......
I can though, supply two odd anecdotes about proving age.

The fisrt about me, though not alcohol, by a shop-assistant not quite understanding the company's policy.

The lass behind the till in a 'Spar' shop paused at a spray-can of deodorant in my basket of goods, and asked if I was over-21 (or similar). I laughed and replied, "Actually I am about fifty but I do thank you for your compliment!" The girl looked rather embarassed but managed a smile and scanned it through.

The second involved more than beer, and a friend, not me.

He and a companion were attending an outdoor-pursuits event in a fairly rural part of America. A local attendee invited them to his family home, where his father showed the guests his private arsenal and let them have a go on his private shooting-range.

Next day, my pal said, he went to the local shop to replace the ammunition and buy some bottles of beer. Only... he had left his passport back at the hosts' home, and the shop-assistant could not understand his slightly camouflaged date-of-birth forming the identity-number on his UK driving-licence, that he did have with him.

So there he was, not only a stranger in the area but a foreigner in the USA, unaccompanied in the shop, able to buy rifle rounds but not a couple of beers!

Never needed it. Only in the past 20 years has paper ID been a thing for young people (I think) because before that we were all perfect...well, perhaps not, but it seems that shops, pubs and other licenced premises were leaned on far more than they were when I was young. These days you have to prove you're over 25 in many places, not because that's the limit (it's 18) but to be on the safe side. Obviously these days my face says it all. 🥴

Nope never had or needed one. I am me myself and I all at the same time. I never went out to bars and clubs as a youth and never got interested in alcoholic drinks until my 40's. Now I'm not interested in them anymore in my 50's

@zonavar68 People our age sometimes do have a fake ID but it isn't to lie about their age.
Once someone is over 21, lieing about their age is needless.

I do not drink but I smoke. Go to the local tobacco store, sing on the door saying "We ID everyone" but then they say to me, "Oh no, come on in grandma, whatever you want."

no. however, many years ago. I was pulled over by a police officer in a different town. I was pulled over for illegal camping at the park along with friends.

after the discussion ended. He asked for my ID. Checking if I had criminal records which I don't.

The Officer scratching his head and repeat the same ID number again thinking he must've did an error. after a few tries. He said I'm not in the data base and He thinks I had a Fake ID. I had no clue why I'm not in the data base.

He almost arrested me too.

No, but I got a monopoly game at a yard sale for a dollar. It was missing pieces and wrote on with crayon, had like coffee stains and such so I threw it away. However I kept the Get Out of Jail Free cards and carry them in my wallet.
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
That was quite i thing back in highschool. When someone had an ID before they got thier drivers license, they would find someone that kind looks like them and try to sell it, or some similar scenario.

These days bars scan IDs and i havent been in the bar scene for years so idk how the kids are doing it these days.
Punches · 46-50, F
@GuyWithOpinions probably just borrow someone's.
thisguy20 · 41-45, M
No: never really needed one.

In high school different people had access to different things: we'd simply trade what we had / could get for what we wanted. I had access to cigarettes (via a vending machine): so I bought a lot of cigarettes and traded them for other stuff...

I didn't need one. You could drink at eighteen and everyone had a cool friend if you weren't eighteen yet.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
Didn’t need it since the local bar didn’t ask for ID and let us in at 14
Yes I had a duplicate id of a cousin, we kind of look alike but not really, but it worked, different times. now they scan it and have you freaking DNA lol

@KentuckyFriedFloozy Well aren’t you special 😌. lol
jehova · 31-35, M
I did at 14 to 19; made it myself. i stopped drinking at age 28ish.
here's something you can try with steroid monkey dummy bouncers/doormen if you're underage trying to get into a night club...bypass everyone in the line up and tell the bouncer you're just here to pick up your drunk sibling up as they might cause a disturbance....trust me it works and you're welcome 😊

DrWatson · 70-79, M

The drinking age was 18 back then.

@GuyWithOpinions I knew people with fake ID's then. There was actually a business in New York City's Times Square that produced any kind of ID you wanted! lol. What bars wanted to see from men at the time was a draft card.

But drinking was not a big priority for me. And I never wanted to get drunk. Back then, if a group of underage friends would order a pizza and a pitcher of beer, the owner might look us over, try to guess whether we were troublemakers, and if not, would bring us one pitcher and not worry about it.

The times were different.
No... I had all on with a real ID...
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
No. I was never interested in that kind of thing.
No, I never did. The drinking age was 19 when I was in college.
seaglass · F
Never needed an ID to access alcohol
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
Yes, I had one as a teenager, but I have never been a alcoholic.
