Just curious if any of you have had or even heard of Kringles?

Growing up in Wisconsin, these were a regular/common item in our kitchen.

My Grandmother used to make a pastry called a "kringla". It was a different pastry than your picture shows. It was a sweet bread pretzel shaped item with caraway seeds (?). Both of my sisters went to stay with her for weeks to learn how to bake like she did. Alas, they never learned how to make the kringlas. Grandma was Norwegian.

@bowman81 Lovely story still. Thank you

I grew up there. Love those things. I need to have some shipped to me here in the south. It'll blow their minds
Levenrack · 46-50, M
@come2gether so expensive now, I remember when they were around 6-8 dollars.
come2gether · 46-50, M
@Levenrack but everything is now. I'll pay the $50 to have 2 shipped to me so I can show what almond dessert should taste like. And a cream cheese one. Or maybe the cherry 🤔

@come2gether yeah I was just looking up at what they have now. I'm getting tempted, to drive down there for 3.5 hours, to em fresh. 😁

I don't think I've seen or heard of them. Looks yummy! A type of danish ring?
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
Yes, I think Aldi had them a few months back until our region.

Looks like the distant ancestor of Pop Tarts...🤣🤣🤣 They look VERY good.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@4meAndyou Pop Tarts is just a sad imitation
Levenrack · 46-50, M
@4meAndyou are you seriously trying to start a fight right now, in here?

😁

@Levenrack Naw...the ancestor pastry looks absolutely delicious...whereas the great grandchild Pop Tart is just awful.
Never heard of them, but they look good.

@Unefilletrescurieuse You probably never heard of the Hodag either. Ask him if he knows about that..!
@carpediem You’re right. I haven’t. 🙂
carpediem · 61-69, M
@Unefilletrescurieuse The "hodag" refers to a mythical creature from Wisconsin folklore, specifically associated with the town of Rhinelander. It's often depicted as a fearsome beast with features like a frog's head, elephant-like face, and a dinosaur's back, with sharp claws and horns. The hodag is also the mascot of Rhinelander and the namesake of the annual Hodag Country Festival.
