TN insists on checking ID of 80+ year olds

My mom has a social group of people that are all 75 years to 90. They meet at restaurants and have dinner togethter. Some times they may have 30 or more people in the group. They went to Carrabbas one night and when they went to order drinks the waitress insisted on checking ID's. The entire group got up and left when management refused to waiver on it. They say the state requires ID checks on every one. (Didn't stupidcrats end ID for voting and driving and buying alcohol etc???)

They went to a different restaurant and have stayed there for a very long time. They dont check IDs of old people. They have commen sense to check IDs of those that could be 30 or younger. The old people groups make a LOT of money for the particular restaurant they go to.
I dont drink too terribly often and I dont get insulted if they ask for ID but if they think Im under 21 then they are mental.

Is it really the law or a convenient excuse to cover lazy management and/or over-zealous corporate lawyers/insurers? I've had staff say management requires them to card everyone because they don't trust younger staff to be discerning enough about age ranges. Easier than training staff to be more discerning. OTOH, I used to take it as a compliment when they carded me, and chide them when they carded a 20-something in front of me and not me. But totally a non-issue for me these days since the meds don't allow me to have alcohol any more. 😥

Do they honestly think that people with gray hair, covered in wrinkles, some on walkers, or with canes are under 21???? Really?????

Just thought of a way to end the nonsense. If i have to show ID you forfit your Tip money.

I've seen this all over the country. Crazy right?! Lol
Where I live, they pretty much ask everyone.

@BizSuitStacy Many old people uber to things. They dont have IDs any more. My mom refuses to show ID. You either want my business or you dont.

Not many have any common sense anymore.

I understand the frustration. But if it is a law to card everyone, then its the law. The restaurant that doesn't check ID's can get fined, or worse, lose it's liquor license.
Fenway Park in Boston cards EVERYONE.
It is what it is.

@Teslin if they go out of business they wont need a liquor license.

@Confined Yup, and if the other restaurant loses their liquor license, they will go out of business as well.

Here it can be mandatory to check everyone if they've been busted in the past for selling to minors..that normally lasts for 30-60 day

@MarineBob Alcohol sales reportedly are WAY down. Companies that sell wine and spirits are going bankrupt since the reframe of Alcohol is poison has started. Restaurants are loosing money like crazy. Even the busy restaurants in town report barely surviving because alcohol is where they make money. They really do not make much on food.
I’d be thrilled if somebody wanted to check my ID under those circumstances. Make me forget my wrinkles and flapjacks momentarily.

@OlderSometimesWiser I get asked all the time.
AJ023 · M
That would suck! Really why get carded at 80 your barely alive and they card you like a child. I'm for senior rights , let's give it to them. C' MoN !!!!

Happening here in the Land of Oz also. Especially at banks.
Confined · 56-60, M
@zonavar68 Banks need to ask for ID.
Restaurants are a pain. I usually only do take out.
I go to a group outing once a month. I hate being asked for ID then get terrible service.
But checking IDs to vote is “wrong” or “ racist”?

@soar2newhighs Exactly

You’re mother might be underaged 😂
Workerbee · 31-35, M
You mean Tennessee?
Confined · 56-60, M
@Workerbee My mom and I went out to dinner one night and we walked out of Carrabbas when they asked for ID.
Workerbee · 31-35, M
@Confined I blame the owners of those establishments
Confined · 56-60, M
@Workerbee They tell me the state is cracking down, and forceing it on them. They send in old and young people that work for the state to see if they are asking. So the restaurants are loosing money. Guess we all need to complain to Gov Lee
