Can Greaseproof Paper Be Used for Baking?

I recently purchased greaseproof paper but I'm unsure if it's suitable for baking purposes. I've heard conflicting opinions about whether greaseproof paper can withstand the heat of an oven without causing any issues such as burning or sticking.

Can anyone in the forum community provide guidance or share their experiences with using greaseproof paper for baking? Your insights would be greatly appreciated!
Parchement paper is wonderful. Just don't let it touch an element. It will bake consistently and you will find what you bake comes out moist.

Does it contain wax? Parchment paper is perfectly fine. You shouldn't bake with wax paper because it has a low heat resistance and could melt.

Accidentally used wax paper once… didn’t go well. But always use parchment paper now.

I’m guessing the greaseproof is similar

Edit: they’re the same thing. 😜

@Tastyfrzz toilet paper in schools in the 70s used to be like.
I saw somewhere that parchment paper is meant to be soaked with water to use in as oven, but I'm not a soa in any way.

I use parchment paper for baking sourdough bread - temps to 450F/232C and it works perfectly.
Read the label.

Google tells me that what we in the US call 'baking parchment' is called 'greaseproof' in other places. The label should tell you if it's recommended for baking. We bake all the time on parchment - especially cookies and certain loaves of bread; also roast chopped oiled vegetables like zucchini & cauliflower. The parchment makes cleanup a snap!

When I was a kid I was always using Mum's greaseproof paper as tracing paper. She got fed up of this and bought baking parchment instead.

Are you talking about Wax Paper? It is made to put cooked things on so they wont stick as they cool...not to use as a cooking surface.

Yep, so long as it's not waxed. I line baking tins with it . . makes it easier to turn out cakes and loaves intact.

You mean parchment paper? I use it all of the time. Much better than waxed paper.
Parchment paper works well. No sticking. Absorbs grease. Even at high temps. No fears.
