C'mon, fess up. Food disasters of your own making.

Year, 1991, Esperance Western Australia.
Neighbours were going out for a few hours and I said I would make a Lemon Cheesecake for their return just because I could.
Setting out making the Cheesecake, supping on some beer stubbies.
Time to add the lemon juice. Drinking had affected my sense of taste, so I kept adding lemon juice until I could taste it in the mixture. All ingredients into a springform pan.
Refrigerated for a few hours. Neighbours returned.
Time for Cheesecake and whipped cream.
Removing the springform pan, the cheesecake flowed copiously over the table.
I added so much lemon juice that there was no way it was going to set. 🤪
I once made cupcakes with a friend when I was like 7, and we read the measurements wrong .

Instead of like 2 teaspoons of carb soda and baking powder ....we added two tablespoons .

I still remember being all excited watching them rise through the glass in the oven door .

We watched them rise .....and rise...

....and then all join together .... then rise some more,

....then flow over the tray and drip down the shelves in the oven ....and then the drips were rising on the bottom of the oven and puffing up .

It came out like a mountain with a multi muffin cup base ....and tasted freakin' AWFUL .

Wr were so disappointed - they were unsalvageable ....and we had to clean the oven 🫤

@OogieBoogie 😃Major disaster there.
In the bin. Hope you never fed them to the birds.

Having to clean the oven really made it so much worse.
@Gusman yeah
But....never made that mistake again .

Might have been 1992, my final year in Esperance.
My neighbour suggested I cook a meal for her family.
Husband was away, long distance truck driver, away for 10 days at a time.
Wife at home with 3 children, boys aged 5 - 10.
I decided to cook Beef Stroganoff. I had eaten it several times and found it to be quite delicious.
Gather all the ingredients.
Good quality Beef Tenderloins. Cubed, floured.
Recipe said to quickly sear the beef in batches and remove from pan.
What did I do? Threw the whole 400 grams of cubed and floured beef into the sizzling frypan and overcooked it to the max.
Doing the lot together the beef became a gluggy mess.
Still I dished it up. The 10 years old said, "I'm not eating this crap". The 7 year old asked if he could make a peanut butter sandwich. The wife and I attempted to eat it but gave up in the end and grabbed a beer from the fridge.

First batch of peanut butter cookies turn out to be mostly burnt black critters! 🤣

Took me forever to clean the pan.

Did manage to get a few that weren't burnt all the way through.

@DeWayfarer 😃 Did you at least try one? 😆

First time i had to cook for dad when mom went back to work i grabbed a cookbook and opened it to schnitzel. Never had it before and made enough for eight. Same thing with the boiled potatoes. Didn't know you had to boil green beans before frying them.

When I was a kid I tried making mashed potatoes by myself. I added cold milk to the potatoes (a no-no), and ended up with a gray rubbery ball of potato. It all had to be tossed out! Lol

I made chocolate meringue pies for a work dinner and the meringue got weepy. I guess it doesn’t travel well. I didn’t bring it for the dinner.
