Yep . Every time my husband made something when a particular cousin was over she hemmed and hawed about it until she was so annoying that my husband wrote the recipe down for her just to shut her up.
When she brought something that was pretty good and my husband asked if she had used a particular ingredient and she declined to say claiming it was a secret recipe . That flew all over me . I shot out of my chair and grabbed her by the arm and the casserole she made and headed for the door . I pushed her outside , handed her her dish and purse and closed the door and locked it .

My mother actually wrote out her 14 carat Carrot Cake recipe in the family cookbook, and left out some important ingredients! 🤣🤣🤣

I don’t give away certain family recipes. We owned a very popular restaurant for years that makes some very unique authentic food… if I ever decide to open something again I want those recipes kept secret.

That's when I resort to old school backyard tactics
They either work or earn me a date with the judge
It's better to do something and get results, rather than accept complacency

One of my mom's friends made a delicious lasagna dish once, but she refused to give out the recipe because it was a family secret. Her family owns an Italian restaurant and that lasagna is a favorite on their menu, but they keep the recipe secret because they don't want their competitors getting a hold of it.

There was a secret ingredient in a restaurant's chili, which became not so secret when the ingredient turned out to be peanut butter and the allergic reaction nearly killed a customer...I think that was in NE somewhere...

Yes a colleague wouldn't give out the recipe for his wife's carrot cake muffins.
It was great though as he liked to brag and show off and bring them in so often, I never felt like I needed it. 🤣

Yes. Annoying af unless it's the key to a restaurant's or business's success. How many great cookie recipes have been lost because the owner took it to the grave?

have you tried mediation?

That shit goes on a lot in my wifes family. 🙄

Some recipes are like science fiction....
I read to the end and think "Well, that's not going to fucking happen..
