Sticker Shock!!! I just priced BUTTER, and it is up to $5.29 for 4 sticks!!!!

They are definitely "sticking" it to us...😰

I can't remember EVERY price before inflation, but I remember ALWAYS paying $3.99 for store brand butter. I thought that was expensive.

What are some pre-Biden and post Biden prices you remember from YOUR local grocery store?

Get out and vote next week!! ✌️🇺🇸
4meAndyou · F
@LunadelobosIAMTHEDRAGON I was thinking the same thing today. Imprison Biden and the other crooks in political office in tiny little apartments living WITH elderly people...let them experience it first hand for about six months! Let them eat ramen noodles for dinner three nights a week, and rice and beans the other nights.
Miklee02 · 51-55, F
@LunadelobosIAMTHEDRAGON it’s everywhere….. if the US ain’t doing good then nobody will do good ….. so hopefully Americans get out and vote next week 🇺🇸
4meAndyou · F
@Miklee02 I will!!!
Fancy Feast cat food was 69 cents and paid $1.29 the other day and let's not even talk about Bounty paper towels over $20 now
4meAndyou · F
@saragoodtimes There are tons of things you can grow inside, even without great windows if you have grow lights!
@4meAndyou have the sunroom that gets plenty of sun for my plants
4meAndyou · F
@saragoodtimes You are VERY lucky. Poor LunadelobosIAMTHEDRAGON is a vegan, has a lot of health issues, both her and her daughter, AND can't really afford to buy veggies because the prices have gone so high...AND doesn't have proper natural light for growing things.

I found it at an Oklahoma City Aldi while ago for $2.49 a pound and bought 4 pounds. It was advertised for $2.49 in the Aldi ad this week
4meAndyou · F
@cherokeepatti SO awesome!!! Check this out...just got it this morning...

https://www.thesimplifydaily.com/budget/meals/grocery-shopping/aldi-shopping-tips-44508186
@cherokeepatti ad that starts on Sunday came today and it goes on sale here then. turkeys at $1.07 a pound too. that's the best advertised so far
4meAndyou · F
UPDATE: FABULOUS NEWS!!! I found butter for 3.99 a pound...2019 price...at Market Basket when I went shopping there this afternoon!

I bought SIX pounds and have them in my freezer!!! I want to bake cookies!
4meAndyou · F
@cherokeepatti I was trying to think along those lines last night...IE: what recipes could use butter flavored Crisco, (which I have), which could use margarine, (tastes terrible but could use in baking), and on and on. I have a bad habit of sauteeing onions in butter, also mushrooms, green peppers, and omelettes need butter.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@4meAndyou I wouldn’t use Crisco at all. It’s trans fats and none of the health benefits of real butter. Those trans fats can clog your arteries but even sooner they can clog the tiny blood vessels in your eyes. I heard Dr. Becker talk about trans fats and vision on one of his tv shows. If I have to use something besides butter it’ll be olive oil or avocado oil. Not the same flavor. And the flavor chemicals they use in butter-flavored fats is not healthy at all.
4meAndyou · F
@cherokeepatti I use it to grease baking pans, and then flour them, right now, and I think I ran out of oil a couple of years ago and added it to my fryer.
Ramrod · 46-50, M
Yep,anything and everything you buy is going up,i saw a store ad for Pepsi,$14.00 a case,WTF,are you nuts ??? Here in Ohio,Faygo brand pop changed from 12 packs to 8 packs of pop and the price is the same,a lot of brands are giving you less and charging you the same or more. :(
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Ramrod It’d be a good time to quit soft drinks, send a message
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
I got a Wendy's Single combo meal from the drive through last week.

I rolled up to the window with a $10 bill and the lady told me it was actually $10.90!

For a combo meal at Wendy's!

WTF????
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@SumKindaMunster I haven’t eaten fast food meals for years and it ws due to the price and for the same money I could make better food & a lot more of it.
Dainbramadge · 56-60, M
@SumKindaMunster Baconator!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! $14.00
WillaKissing · 56-60
Just wait, Biden ceased domestic drilling and oil production, lowered our strategic oil reserves to an all-time low, brought on the recession that is looming, and lastly, I have friends that are semi drivers that shared they were told last week that our nation only has a 28-day supply of diesel left. What them when not a damn semi can move for lack of a fuel source. Can you hunt and fish, do you have air loom seeds to plant in the spring time?

@soar2newhighs To be honest I have been selected for jury duty every year because I live in a rural sparsely populated area/county of Ohio. if we want to be fair to all Americans and to really build a true democracy why is not the senate and congress seats not filled equally (Republican and Democrat) by a statewide lottery pool just like jury selection with 1 four-year term in office and you have to serve it and your present employer has to hold your job or they go to jail just like if you try and duck out of jury duty. Then we spread out that health care and college fund stuff for the poor and average folk.

PS: I am done ranting and thank you.
@WillaKissing Expect politicians to play by the RULES they make for us?

Hey, I don’t envy you. Hopefully you’ll not get called.
Good luck.
Eddiesolds · 61-69, M
Meat is very expensive here. I buy butter in sticks also. 4 in a box. I never look at the prices. Ill look tonight while i do groceries. Now im curious.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
I know this post is about butter but whipping cream has gone way up in price even if you can find it on the shelves. Aldi’s had the best prices and they don’t always get it shipped to the store. I found two recipes for whipped cream substitute made with milk and one version uses corn starch as a thickener and one version uses rice starch you make from cooked rice. Both looked good, you sweeten it and add some vanilla.
@cherokeepatti I am so counfused: What in rice inclines it to being actually whipped?
heavyone2 · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti Oh I can relate,,, whipping cream is hard to get now.... almost never on the shelves. I was going to get some to use for Thanksgiving... none to be had last night. Quart was over 6 bucks according to shelf sticker but no product. Half and Half is almost 2 bucks a pint... that is almost triple in price. Thanks again "Joe"...
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@heavyone2 well I will try the rice version of the whipped cream substitute, it might work, we’ll see.
. She’s gone and so are lower prices on her butter!
Our butter, it's in some stores, 7.99 CND. Yup.

A month ago I got so lucky, and the butter (equivalent to four sticks) was actually 3.99, a huge sale! I bought several of them.
Dacrowman · 70-79, M
@LunadelobosIAMTHEDRAGON what is a stick of butter 🤷
@Dacrowman I don't buy sticks; but it's butter that has been quartered.

Ask @4meAndyou for more clarification :)

I am running ten million errands and dumb humans are getting on my few remaining :)
Baremine · 70-79, C
Brake cleaner at Walmart before dumb dumb Biden $1.49. today $3.29
Dacrowman · 70-79, M
@Baremine same in UK do I blame Biden do I f@#k it's a worldwide problem ,get real and stop bringing politics into everything
Baremine · 70-79, C
@Dacrowman Biden upset the world supply of oil with his executive orders. That is what caused world wide inflation. Biden and his Looney tunes cohearts.
Baremine · 70-79, C
@Baremine truth hurts. Biden is a problem.
I've seen absurd jumps in food prices. The latest was the asparagus at our local market listed for $4.99/lb. The gov't took food and fuel prices out of the overall market basket used to calculate inflation. That's not Biden's doing. Food and fuel were jettisoned during the Clinton admin. Regardless, inflation is much higher than the reported 8%.
4meAndyou · F
@BizSuitStacy Senior Citizens on fixed incomes will receive, (supposedly), an 11 per cent cost of living increase NEXT January, but food and fuel costs have DOUBLED in most cases!!! Seniors are about to get very lean and mean.
@4meAndyou Yeah. Biden admin touting it as the biggest increase ever or something silly like that. But people on fixed incomes are still losing.
4meAndyou · F
@BizSuitStacy I'm sure they will have plenty or Ramen Noodle soup and rice to eat...but after paying for their heat, and the gas to get to the grocery store, and their medicine...not much else.
I grew up around my grandparents' dairy farms and helped make butter several times. Get yourself the required amount of milk/cream and a churn and make your own butter once. You'll not complain about the price again. ;-) But I hear you.
@4meAndyou Sorry to hear re your shoulder. Of all the chores I learned to do that was among my least favorite.
@SW-User More about how boring I found it at that age. I'd always rather do the barn work than sit there churning.
SW-User
@Stillwaiting Ha! I use to give it to my children in a jar and let them roll it to each other and they were always happy to do so and thrilled at the outcome. lol
FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
Guess it's better than getting the dry stick with NO grease.
@FloorGenAdm the news keeps saying there's going to be a shortage of butter come holiday baking season
4meAndyou · F
@saragoodtimes I bought 6 pounds today, and my budget tilted to..."No more butter for you!" 🤣🤣🤣
SW-User
It's a world wide thing.
My grocery bill has gone up almost double and when I look at each item I cannot even pinpoint where this increase is coming from at one glance. Everything has shot up sneakily.
4meAndyou · F
@SW-User Yes, I am aware that prices are creeping up on every item. I check my flyers every week for sale items. Last month, I bought a smoked pork shoulder for 1.99 per pound. The price of that used to be .89 to .99 per pound.

Canned vegetables used to be fifty cents per can, and I could even find store brand canned soups for fifty cents per can. NOW prices are MORE than doubled for all of those things.
SW-User
@4meAndyou I don't know how a normal person with low wages is supposed to get through.
4meAndyou · F
@SW-User I'll let you know! 😉😉😉
Most of us probably can’t remember exact prices to compare with today’s for many things. That said, with the inflation rate where it is, the Fed has acted. Not necessarily a good thing for those of us with credit card debt…[image deleted]
4meAndyou · F
@soar2newhighs So, you are saying DON'T put your groceries on you charge card...😉
@4meAndyou Not saying that at all. Simply pointing out the rate of inflation caused the Fed to raise interest rates which affect credit cards.
4meAndyou · F
@soar2newhighs I know. All cool.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
I might check at Winco when I go this week. Seemed to be less expensive that Aldi. Something else I’ve noticed sometimes stores are out of cream and half-and-half. They only get so much of it in anymore. I think the reason is that they are using the cream to make more butter.
Given the abysmal failure of this administration to run a good economy it’s up to the consumer where possible to shop frugally and make use of everything that will help keep at least, your good and essentials bills down.

I say this because I’m retired, live on a fixed income and these suggestions save me some money.
Mardrae · F
It’s really scary! I’ve been trying to remember to start buying a couple of non perishable food items to stock when I get groceries, to have things to fall back on when I literally can’t afford to eat anymore.
Dainbramadge · 56-60, M
$2.59 per gallon mid-grade - pre.
$4.50 regular - post.

A meal I normally paid $18 -$21 for last month was $28 day before yesterday.
It's going up and up and up daily.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Dainbramadge part of the price increase here is that hay has tripled in price due to a long summer drought, not many cuttings so the farmers are going to pay through the nose to feed their livestock this winter or sell off the meat animals.
bowman81 · M
The price of eggs has tripled around here. From $1.09/doz. Grade A Large to $3.39/doz. Hah, and CNN claims we never heard of inflation before. We sure see the effects of it.
Barny52 · 56-60, M
Same here in uk and its sneaky, the butter we have in 500g tubs is up from £2.50 to £5 but the next size up the 1kg tubs as been cut down to 750g that 25% down in weight
heavyone2 · 61-69, M
Just wait, Biden will speak to the man that invented butter and it will be ok.........
@heavyone2 That is “
Professor” Biden. That’s another half cocked claim. He was honorary, but made good $$$ on the gig!
heavyone2 · 61-69, M
@soar2newhighs It's always follow the $$$$
calicuz · 51-55, M
I don't remember Cheese being as expensive as it is.
Whodunnit · M
The same is happening here in the UK
Teslin · M
Yes, I paid this yesterday as well !!

@MarmeeMarch I should drive up to Trader Joe's! It's a 40 minute drive, though...so I would probably lose on the gas money. 😢
