Above the knee shorts on men...something seemingly harmless, yet somehow so controversial at times. Even though it used to be the norm back in the 80s or so, it began to become stigmatized around the 90s or so, and the stigma stuck for quite a while.

The biggest part of the stigma was people though it "looked gay." Basically homophobia. Like some people might have just simply thought longer shorts looked better, but a lot of people didn't wanna wear shorter shorts because they associated them with gay people, and no one wanted to risk being thought of as gay since being gay was looked down upon.

Since I'm 22 years old, born in 2001, that means below the knee men's shorts have been the fashion throughout almost all the years I've been alive.

However, relatively recently, starting in around 2020 or so, I gradually began seeing more and more men in above the knee shorts, showing more and more thigh...and I would be lying if I said I wasn't all about it! As a bisexual person (even though I generally prefer women) I've always WANTED to see men's legs/thighs, but they always wore long and baggy below the knee shorts, so I never got to see them...luckily that changed! And seemingly overnight, too!

Like I don't quite know how to explain what I like about it so much, but I guess it's the male equivalent of seeing women in mini skirts or mini dresses.

Like the 3 men in the above photo...GOD THEY HAVE SUCH NICE LEGS. The glimpse of lower man thigh makes all the difference than if their shorts were to reach the knees. I REALLY hope those 3 men wear shorts that short all the time, and that they never go back to wearing below the knee shorts because it would just be a shame to hide that beautiful man thigh. I really hope they wear shorts more frequently than pants too.

So yeah, um...I'm obviously VERY biased, but I'm curious what other people think.

TL;DR- Personally I absolutely LOVE above the knee shorts on men...I don't know, I just really like thighs. But I'm curious what other people think.

They aren't shorts if they cover your knees. They are just embarrassingly poor trousers.
@ninalanyon Ah yes. I agree 100%, lmfao. I'm 22 years old so I never grew up with short shorts or anything, but shorts that cover the knees just NEVER made any sense to me. Like if you want them that long then just wear some proper full length long pants? Otherwise they just look like pants that are too short instead of actual shorts. 3/4 pants basically. Loose capris.

I think it's okay on gay men 🌈
@Matt85 I just think it looks good on ALL men period. Regardless of sexuality. Lol.

Let people wear what they want to wear.

I frown on those that make jokes about what I wear. Even if it's all black in the middle of desert in a drought.

My tolerance for the heat is much higher than the ones in shorts.

I was born in the Mojave desert! The highest temperatures in the whole world!

You can have below subzero tolerances for all I care. Pour on the heat.

above the knee shorts (aka "ranger panties") were still standard issue PT shorts when I was in Army 20 years ago
@wildbill83 The name "ranger panties" is pretty darn funny, but regardless, from the photos I've seen of military guys in short shorts, it's a REALLY good look for them. I mean...men with thick, muscular thighs in short shorts? Yes please! A dream come true, lmfao.
It depends on how short the shorts are.

When I was at school, one of my teachers used to run before work and it wasn't uncommon for him to roll up wearing a fabric version of Daisy Dukes - let's just say that the guy didn't have the nickname of "Chicken legs" for no reason.

To this day, I don't know how he could have sat down wearing those without revealing himself to everyone in the vicinity.

I don't mind men wearing shorts - but, like women wearing skirts, I do prefer that they are reasonably modest.

Chairman wore tartan ones as alternative to the kilt.
@malizz Really huh? Well good to know, lol. New thing learned.
malizz · 70-79, M
@RandomPersonThings The more common alternative was trews as long tartan trousers are called.

I love short shorts on men, I have a pair myself and I think my legs look great. I also wore the long shorts for a long time too though. I agree that it was stigmatized as a gay man thing and I really only became comfortable wearing them after I accepted my sexuality as a bisexual man, mainly because I started finding it attractive on other men.

I think it looks good.
I'm a tennis player, so I wear my shorts above the knee and I think below the knee shorts look a biit odd.
I'm also gay, and love seeing men's legs exposed above the knee.

No bothered too much, but I prefer a boy with longer shorts and bare feet. I also prefer shirtless.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
I think it looks good. To me it makes no sense to wear pants during summer, and men are no exception.

Up to the early 90's I had Tom Selleck nut huggers. And I wasn't the only one
AllycatAD · 26-30, F
Hey, I'll admit it, one of the reasons I watch men's Tennis and Soccer (football)
MyNameIsHurl · 41-45, F
There's a guy at my work who wears them and he has really muscular legs, oh my goodness
Dlrannie · 31-35, F
I have a gentleman friend who calls those that extend below the knee - Short Longs 🙂🐼🥢
I just presume you like men and their legs
exexec · 61-69, C
I won't wear them. My golf shorts stop at the knee.
carpediem · 61-69, M
Above the knee = shorts. Below the knee = pants.
you need some Warrick cappers.

Goodluckwiththat · 56-60, M
Better than Daisy Dukes...
Jexie · 26-30, F
